The European Day of Jewish Culture (EDJC) is celebrated in a number of
countries in Europe. Its purpose is organize activities related to Jewish
culture and let the public know about them. The activities are organized by
the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish
Culture (AEPJ), the European Council of Jewish Communities, B'nai Brith
Europe and the Network of Jewish Quarters in Spain. In 2017 the EDJC has
partnered with the National Library of Israel. The European Day of Culture
started in 1996 by the Bnai Brith of Strasbourg. Today, it is celebrated in
35 countries which are mentioned on the AEPJ logo above (click and you can
enlarge the logo to read the names of the countries listed on the bottom).
This year the European Day of Jewish Culture is celebrated on September 3,
however, some counties may have events planned days before or after this
date. This year's theme is diasporas-and for this cultural event they define
diasporas not only the physical dispersal of Jews worldwide, but the
religious, philosophical, political and escatological (the final destiny of
the soul and of humankind) attributes. Today, over one million Jews live in
Europe. Information on the EDJC including information about diasporas are
included on their website at: http://www.jewisheritage.org/web/edjc/2017
where there is a dropdown box to learn which counties and cities within are
having programs. The press release is available at:
