(US-NYC) Supreme Court of NY "Division of Ancient Records" Moving

In New York City (Manhattan) the Surrogate's Courthouse (the Hall of
Records) located at 31 Chambers Street, houses what used to be called the
Division of Ancient Records is moving to preserve the records and make them
more accessible. Some are being moved to the New York State Archives in
Albany NY, while others are going to the New York City Department of
Records, lower floors in the same building, but more modern accommodations
in the Municipal Archives. Genealogists are familiar with this building as
it houses the Department of Records Municipal Archives.

Examples of the records include documents that relate to the historic 1735 case of
Crown vs John Peter Zenger, some swearing allegiance to King George III, records
of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, including Burr's divorce papers. They
also include condemnation records of properties to create Central Park and the
grid system so the city's streets---and of interest to genealogists immigration and
naturalization documents of Europeans who sought to become US citizens.
There was no information as to when the move would be completed.
