Friends,

I have hit a brick wall trying to find out what happened to my grandmother's first
cousin Nathan Marshak. He was born Nason Markusoff (have seen it spelled different
ways transliterated from the Russian) in Vetka, Russia on July 29, 1888.

From the ship manifest Nason Marckasew.(aka Nathan Marshak) left Russia and
departed Liverpool on September 10, 1913 and arrived in Philadelphia September 27,
1913. He joined my family in Chicago. The manifest lists a wife Liebe or Luba who
remained in Russia. There is a notation which states "2/4/1925 verified 44880."
That number is probably the naturalization petition # (44880) and date of when he
filed (or when he was naturalization): Feb. 4, 1925. I tried to track that down
as the cook county (Chicago) naturalization petitions are indexed
(http://www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/NR/default.aspx) so if he filed there I
should have been able to find it but I did a search and couldn't find it.

From his WWI draft registration record I know in 1917 he lived at 839 Garibaldi
Street in Chicago, was an alien and profession was a mechanic. He answered he had a
mother, wife and child.

I have also found a reference to a ship manifest departing Southampton December 23,
1920 to NYC on the Ship Sophie Frankel.

Where can I go from here? I heard he returned to Russia after the Revolution of
1917 but did he in fact return in 1920? Any suggestions on how to proceed are
greatly appreciated. I have copies of the passenger manifest from 1913 and his
draft registration card.

My goal is to find out what happened to Nathan Marshak, his wife Luba and daughter
and if they have any descendants.

Many thanks,

George Fogelson
