Question about locating Meseritz in Poland

I have a wedding certificate from 1913 written in German with the
following two place names in Poland mentioned as places of birth of
the celebrants:
Stepnica
Meseritz

I am trying to work out the exact location of Meseritz since there
seem to be at least two locations with the same Germanized spelling of
Meseritz (in Western Poland: Miedzyrzecz, and in Eastern Poland:
Miedzyrzec Podlaski, both with long Jewish heritage).

Maybe as a clue, both place names have in brackets after them in the
marriage certificate with the addition of a word in brackets that
looks like Russold or Russland with the 'u' character of the word
possessing a circle above it ("ring above" like a Czech u).

As an additional clue, everyone in my family thought their ancestors
were from Galicia, while none of the two possibilities seem to be
there.

Can anyone help me here please give me a better idea where Meseritz might be?
