I am looking for information on the family WAG. The documents I have found say they
come from Austria or Younif,Poland or Yanov, Poland or Yanoff, Galicia, Austria.
Some of them are buried in the Chaim Hersh Weiss Erste Yanover K.U.V. . What is
the best place to start looking for them in the old country ?Where did they
come from? Thank you for your help in this matter.

That place is the JewishGen Communities Database
<http://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/Search.asp>

I see 6 places that are promising, all having been in Poland sometime in
history and having had beween 300 and 3000 Jewish inhabitants.

Janow Lubelski, Poland
Janow Podlaski, Poland
Janow Sokolski, Poland
Janow, (near Czestochowa), Poland
Janowo, Poland
and perhaps:
Jonava, Lithuania

Evertjan Hannivoort.
The Netherlands.

According to the JGS-New York's Burial Society Database
(http://www.jgsny.org/index.php/searchable-databases/burial-society-databases),
the Chaim Hirsch Weiss Erste Yanower Sick & Benevolent Association was
associated with the Galician town that is now Ivano-Frankove, Ukraine.
It was Janow, Austria, in the Hapsburg era and Janow, Poland, between
the world wars. See JewishGen's Communities Database --
http://data.jewishgen.org/wconnect/wc.dll?jg~jgsys~community~-1061265
-- for more information about the town's location.

Burials at the Chaim Hirsch Weiss society's grounds at Beth David and Montefiore
Cemeteries are transcribed on JOWBR, which also notes the town's current name.

Miriam Weiner's Routes to Roots Foundation database
(http://www.rtrfoundation.org/search.php -- search for Ivano Frankovo)
shows that Jewish records for the town are held in repositories in
Lviv, Przemysl, and Warsaw.

In addition to the mentioned cities there may be also Janow-Lwowski
(the name used till the mid of the 20th century) in the East Galicia,
it belonged to Austria till 1918, and to Poland in 1919-1939, now it
is called Ivano-Frankowe (30 km to the W from Lviv), Ukraine.
