Dear all,

I have been searching for any for information about my late grandfather.

Born Aron Berko KANELSKIY, in Uman on 10 May, 1885 to Berko & Malka
Kanelskiy and died on 25 October 1949 in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, where
he & his 2nd family was evacuated during WW2 from Odessa.

His first wife was Basya/Baya - Shimonova, surname unknown. She died
c. 1917 - 1918, when my dad was 2 years old. The family had 3 boys:
Khaskel or Khariton, born 1904, then Boris, and my father Yakov, born
1915.

My older cousins tell me that Aron being a member of RSDRP & worrying
persecutions left for America with 10 other men before WW1 and lived
there for one year. He has returned to Russia, when the party he
belong to became RSDRP(B). All but one man returned to Russia.

Aron's second wife (as stated on podvignaroda website) Faina Isakovna.
Together they had 3 more children - Iosif, born around 1926 and killed
during first few months of WW2 and girls - Oma and Musia, Musia being
the youngest of three.

Musia had a girl who died ~ a teenager, Oma was married to
russified German (per Google translation). And while on the
subject of names - have anyone else come across name Oma?

I was told that both girls made Aliya, probably in the late 1990s.

I have been searching All Odessa Database, Ancestry.com, Family
search & Steve Morse with variation of the surname - no records
whatsoever. Could not find anything on Karaganda's either.

I've posted 2 family photos in hope that may be someone will find
names or faces familiar.

They are on ViewMate at the following address:

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49430
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49431

Also I am posting the summary of a manifest with information that
resembles my gfather particulars, i.e. year of birth, town he was born
& occupation but am confused about it being South America and not
America and year of travel. It is at the following address:

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM49432

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Handwritten index for same person does not help either, as there is no
additional information of who paid for the passage, or names of family
members left behind.

Argentina has no vital records in English beyond 1895 and I could not
find anything on JewishGen.org for Karaganda. I would appreciate any
suggestions which will assist me in my search.

Thank you very much.
