The IAJGS Records Alert previously (late 2016 and early 2017) reported
about the (UK) General Register Office (GRO) for ordering records as a
pdf.

Effective October 12 the GRO launched a further pilot test of digitized
historical birth and death records in pdf format. The new pilot will run
for a minimum of three months to enable the GRO to access the demand for
this service over a prolonged period.

Each pdf application will cost 6 GBP, be made online and include the GRO
index reference.

This test will cover the following time frames for England and Wales:

Births: 1837-1916
Deaths: 1837-1957

Unlike the first trial, there is no limit on the number of pdfs that may
be ordered. The first trial was limited to 45,000 copies. Running a
trial for an extended period enables the GRO to better gauge the impact
of the PDF service on orders of paper certificates.

The pdf has no evidentiary value and may not to be used for identification.
For those purposes one must still apply for certificate rather than a pdf.

To learn more go to:
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

Registration is required. Only an email address and password are required.
No credit card information is requested, unless you are ordering any pdfs.

Thank you to Mark Nicholls, member IAJGS Public Records Access Alert for
sharing this information.
