Bessarabia SIG, update for the month of February 2017

Dear researchers,

Here is an update for the month of February 2017 for Bessarabia SIG.
See the details at the "What's New" section of our web site.

Bessarabia Databases. Updates:
- Bessarabia Revision Lists, records will be send to JewishGen in May-June 2017.
Several sets of records were completed, including set for Kishinev. See all
sets at the Bessarabia Database Section at the top.

- A new update was made to database "Jews involved in public life in Bessarabia".
1382 records are now available in the database. The records are available at the
Bessarabia SIG website as well as soon be available at JewishGen database,

Jewish Cemeteries. Updates:
- see the update of the list of cemeteries in Bessarbia/Moldova

- Lipcani Jewish cemetery was completed and now there are 1879 burial records
with 1806 photographs, also there are 567 photos of Unknown graves available at
Bessarabia SIG website. See the Lipcani cemetery report for maps, photos,
information.

- Kishinev Jewish Cemetery. Sector 2 was photographed and indexed. 1341 burial
records with 1202 photos, also 48 photos of Unknown Graves. See Kishinev
Cemetery report with maps, schemas of the Sector 2, and photos.

Yizkor Books. Kishinev Yizkor book was updated with the section "Zionism".

Here is an update for the month of August 2017 for Bessarabia SIG. See the

Updates:
- Bessarabia Revision Lists, new update will be send to JewishGen in December
2017.
Several sets of records were completed. See all sets at the Bessarabia Database
Section at the top.

-Jewish Cemeteries. Updates:
Phase 5 of Beltsi project was completed. 683 records with 666 photographs were
sent to JewishGen/JOWBR. Also there are 18 photos added to Unknown graves set,
available at the website and from Beltsi Cemetery report:

website.Jewish Cemeteries.

- Cemeteries. Updates:
We have completed photographing and indexing a large Jewish Cemetery in
Bessarabia - Rashkov. This is the Phase 2 of the project, and now the
total number of the burial records available is 1,451 with 1,443 photos
of the stones. The other 213 Unknown grave images are going to be
visible from the Rashkov Cemetery report. You can find maps, photos and

People Stories. Addition:
A Family Story: Shaya, A Family Tale: several episodes written by Alan
Levitt, Bessarabia SIG Discussion group director. It is about his
grandfather Shaya and the Russian army. This is a good example of a
family story which helps to understand the environment in which people,
especially Jews used to live in the Russian Empire. You can find this
