What is Victoria Day in Canada: In 1845, during the reign of Queen Victoria,
May 24, the queen's birthday, was declared a holiday in Canada. After
Victoria's death in 1901, an act of the Canadian Parliament established
Victoria Day as a legal holiday, to be celebrated on May 24 (or on May 25
when May 24 fell on a Sunday). It is observed as a federal holiday on the
Monday before 25 May each year-this year May 21..Today, Canada is the only
country who still has a holiday on the day.

In celebration of Victoria Day weekend, Ancestry Canada is offering free
access to all UK records from May 18 to May 21, 2018 at 11:59PM ET.
Registration is required name, email address and password. No credit card
information is requested. The types of records included in the featured
collection are:

Birth, marriage and death certificates; Immigration ship passenger
lists; Military records; Maps, photos, school directors, and more!

Go to: https://www.ancestry.ca/cs/allukrecords . When you put in the name
you are searching the results will come back with a green "view" which says
Free access. Click on "view" If you click on the right where it says start
a free trial, you will be asked for credit card information and that is
*not* the free weekend access. Once record opens if you sign up to save this
record-that also will direct you to the subscription free trial. This also
is not the Victoria Day Weekend offer. To copy, save to your computer or
email the image, right click your mouse on the record you will be given
several options. Click on the option you prefer. For example if you want to
save the image to your hard drive click "save image" and save it to file you
want on your computer.

To view the records in the featured collection in this offer go to:
https://search.ancestry.com/search/group/uk_collections

If you try to access records not in the featured collection you will be
directed to a page asking you to subscribe. The same will occur if you try
to access the featured collection after the May 21, 2018 11;59PM ET
deadline.

Note: When I was trying this one record out of the many I tried, a census
from Scotland took me to the subscribe rather to the record. This one record
was reported to Ancestry and I have no idea if the "glitch" appears in other
searches.

I have no affiliation with Ancestry and am posting this solely for the
information of the reader.
