Big news about the marriage certificates in New York City.

The City Clerk's Marriage Bureau has announced that as of the end of
October they will transfer all of the 1930s and 1940s certificates to
the Municipal Archives.

The index has already been at the Archives and now we will be able to
see the certificates and the price of copies will fall for the $15 the
Marriage Bureau gets to the $11 the Archives gets. Or at least that
is the preliminary plan.

No word on how long it will take to complete the transfer and get the
microfilms on the shelf so that we can use them. But they are coming.
The 1950 and newer certificates will still be at the Marriage Bureau
and only ones more than 50 years ago will be publicly available.
