I've been using various versions of FTM since I switched from LDS's PAF twenty or so years ago. My current version is FTM 2012, and I have almost 75,000 individuals in my main database. The program seems to be slowing significantly as more individuals are added, plus it seems that Ancestry.com is phasing out their support for FTM, so I'm looking for a program to switch to that will be easy for a long-time FTM user to adapt himself to (it's getting more difficult as age increases to teach this old dog new tricks...). Any suggestions?

I used FTM yesars ago. I switched to RootsMagic and found it much
easier to use.... but not "at first"... it is different and will take
some effort to get used to it. Recent versions of RootsMagic will
import FTM files directly.... that is, you don't have to do anything
but tell RM to import the FTM file and it will convert it. HOWEVER, I
think there is a limit to which versions of FTM it will import.Since
It's been years, I haven't kept up with which version it will and
which it won't, However, I recall that FTM used to be able to save the
data in a format compatible with earlier versions of FTM, so I'd
suggest trying RM (you can download a trial version for free) and
trying to import your data. If it won't, try saving your data in a
format compatible with earlier versions of FTM, and try importing
that. Good luck.

Legacy or RootsMagic - I have both. RM is faster. I think the Legacy
Family Screen is much better. I suggest trying both. If I used one
program it would be Legacy. I phased out FTM more than 20 years ago
when it was produced by Banner Blue.

There is no problem I have found importing to RM from Legacy. But the
Name Source importing from RM to Legacy is a problem. RM assigns the
Name Source to "Unspecified" when imported to Legacy. Printouts are
okay but I doubt you do many with 75,000 names.

But it's about the same as deciding whether you like Boxer or Jockey
shorts better. I suggest trying both.
