Johpa-I agree whole-heartedly!
These poor naive Thai folks are on their way to another economic
nightmare thanks to western business tactics and "clout". MLM has
only fooled the very inexperienced and optimists. I wish these
preachers would print out thier time/sales/earnings statements to the
newsgroups to see if they actually see any of the money these
"multi-million dollar companies" are supposed to be making...don't
hide behind the magizine articles...tell us of your own personal
wealth experience in this MLM scam. You know, I wonder why Thai
people will buy these products when so much of the public like brand
names and the status symbols that go with western cosmetics companies.
Thais are so fashion-concious right? If not, then why all the
popularity in western clothes, cars, cell phones,music...etc...I also
wonder if the postal or delivery system is up to western standards of
convienience and reliablity...maybe Nu-Skin has not thought of this
barrier...they may be able to do satisfactory business in the big
cities only...but what about the common Thais who want a quality
product at a good price? Are they living in an area where this is
possible or more convienient than going to the local store and buying
some "darkie toothpaste"? Please Thai People, take care of all your
own first and don't let others use or buy you off....where is our
pride? We need to gain it or restore it ....there has been so many
mistakes made in the recent times due to the "lust for a quick buck".
Much of Thailand's downfall is the result of taking the easy
way....What happened to hard work and honesty, or not to mention
brotherly love for our ppeople? We refer to each other as Pii This
Nong That...wish we could really mean it instead of using it as a
courtesy....Last comment...are Thais supersticious? I love the 13th
date Nu-Skin has chosen to open in the Land of Smiles.

I, too, was approached by these people with promises of fantacy. This
is nothing more than a *glorified* pyramid scheme except that they
use the damn products as "a front" to shield them from being arrested.
When they approached me, all they talked about was to join, join and
join the organization. You know what you could become rich by just
selling a bottle of tap water in this instance, because the damn
product is really immaterial. It's the people who sign up and
pay...As soon as you sign up, the organization gets the fee...then you
are encouraged to buy the products just to
"test it out youself"..There, they got your money already...The people
above you will then get a piece of the cake.. How nonsense! Like I
said, it could be just a bottle of tap water, you still make the
money, if the chain continues...That's why they have to constantly
recuit and recuit!!!
PLEASE PASS ALONG THIS MESSAGE TO ALL THE THAI PEOPLE WHO ARE BEING
FOOLED INTO BELIEVING THAT THIS CAN MAKE THEM RICH! JUST PURE
NONSENSE!
> join the organization. You know what you could become rich by just

Ha...this is the most impressive comment I have ever read about this
thread so far. It is very much true that the cost of making any cosmatics
are very low (<35%). However, the selling price is so damn high...why?
To raise the image of the product. Most people, especially girls who buy
the stuff, think that the more expensive the better quality. Excuse me!!
Sometimes, many brands are manufactured from the same factory. Why...they
have to keep the cost down by manufacture in various price tag (the
brandname). We are in the world of legitimate scam (advertising).
Looking at all the ads and you will know how propaganda they are!!!
Really, we are in the world of SCAM.
Yours,
Pitt Supaphol
Johpa,
Did you know that Nu Skin is the fourth largest company in America right
now? They are making all kinds of money all over the world and it is
really no joke.
I don't work for these people nor do I know anybody that does but I have
found out a lot of things (Mostly Good) about this company and they are
definately not a scam like most things of this nature.
You might not want to jump the gun on these people. They are definately
serious!
Do you think that these fine, upstanding and successful businessmen
might be prevailed upon to put some kind of identifier in the Subject
lines of their posts? Something like "AD-CRAP", for example? Then those
of us who don't want to download and read the material can set our
killfiles accordingly.

OK--- A)--Look...I'm from da Noo Yawk area. We write like we tawk.
But the message gets across.
b) Obviously, you're referring to Network Marketing.
Great, lets clear up a few things about the industry. The sad part is
that with the vast amount of MLM companies out there, a lot insults and
venom I've been seeing over the last few days about MLM have not only
been correct...but also richly deserved.
I ask you to (at least for a couple of minutes) lose your baggage about
these other companies. Every company is different! I may have
recommended this before, but please read "Wave Three--The new Era in
Network Marketing" by Richard Poe, the former editor of Success
Magazine.
After careful investigation, I have found THIS company to be completely
legitimate, integrity laden, and is a company with an exciting future.
Dun and Bradstreet, Merrill Lynch, among others after investingating
the company from nose to toes, agree.
All network marketing is, is simply a brilliant way of getting product
to an end line consumer. Cutting out all the middle-men and
advertising, instead paying an independent network of distributors,
gives the consumer a better product for a lower price! Again, I
realize with some companies they don't end up doing it that way. We
do.
Now...lets get the pyramid nonsense out of the way. A pyramid is an
illigal scam...a chain letter. Now, I ask you...Would the U.S. Olympic
Committee license a chain letter? Would the Direct Selling Association
admit a chain letter? Would 51 Olympians from the last olympics admit
to using the products of a chain letter, and recommend them? After
auditing a set of books, would Dun and Bradstreet give their highest
(5A1) rating to a chain letter??!!
Just so you know....One of the hallmarks of a pyramid is that it is
impossible to make more than the person who brought you in. When I
sponsor someone, my goal and hope is that they make more money than
me!! (How many bosses say that about their employees?) And people
frequently do make more thqn their sponsors IF they work harder!
You may think..yeah, but if he makes money on him, who make money on
her..etc. What about buying a car? The salesman gets a piece. As
does his sales manager. As does his general manager. As does the
owner of the dealership. As does each step...all the way to the prez
of the car company!!
You know, human nature is a funny thing. It always is that when people
don't fully understand something, human nature dictates that they
reject it. In fact, the parallels between the mainstreaming of Network
Marketing today, and what happened with franchising in the sixties are
facinating. Did you know that in 1963, there was a bill on the floor of
the US congress to actually outlaw franchising!? They thought it was a
scam to get an upfront fee. Back then, the NY Times wouldn't run any
kind of ads for any kind of franchise opportunities. Today its one of
the most respected forms of doing business. Back then, not only didn't
they understand what Ray Kroc was doing with MacDonalds, they even
tried to make it illigal!!
Same thing here. Imagine meeting someone who could have gotten into
MacDonalds in the early days, but didn't PURELY BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT
FRANCHISE WAS A LOAD OF CRAP. Lotsa vision, huh? Same thing here.
Another misconception is the "ones at the top make all the money" bit.
Realize that here, unlike the corporate pyramid (Do YOU make as much
as your boss?), here anyone can and does rise to their full potential.
And instead of having people try to hold you back, here they want your
success.
Its kind of like if you were a real estate broker. You trained your
best agent, and of course split the commission with him when he sold a
house.. In fact you trained him so well, he goes off on his own. Of
course, he'll set up shop across the street. You've effectively
trained your own competition! BUT---What if when he opened his agency,
you still got five percent of his agency's production, being as you
trained him. And if one of his people went out on their own...the
same..etc.
Believe me, myself and my family would not go into something without
investigating it totally. This comapny has more intergrity to it than
any corperation I've ever seen.
A lot of the insults I've been reading in this newsgroup are about the
PEOPLE who are trying to do this business by nagging, hounding, etc.
The naggers and hounders don't realize that a) it doesn't work and b)
you're just going to make enemies. They don't realize that if someone
signed in just to shut you up..they're not going to do it
anyway!---You've then wasted your time.
We approach prfessionals with a business idea. Some see it. Some
don't. Some come back with such a hostile reaction, you KNOW that this
is someone that will use any excuse to not ivestigate it...because then
if they find that it IS legitimate, real, and ethical...they're faced
with that naked honesty of saying, "NO, I am not willing to work hard
for 24-36 months to get total financial freedom for myself and my
family". Putting it down is their M.O.-- like the kid whose friend got
a snazzier bicycle is much easier.
I hoped I've cleard up some misconceptions here. I am certain that
company WILL be at 10 billion within a few years. This marketing
methodology IS the wave of the future. Economist Paul Zane Pilzner has
written that the effect of Network Marketing over the next several
years will be as profound as the industrial revolution was at the turn
of the last century.
Also...Larry, if you are going to respond...at least have the integrity
to not zap out my response when you respond. Let everyone read IN ITS
ENTIRETY what you are answering. Don't worry...they'll scroll down and
find you.
Your turn.

I have "replied" (flamed) every Nu-Skin spam post on this group so far
(but have had little support from anyone else until this thread).
The real giveaway that this operation is a scam was revealed in the
Bangkok Post report about the launch. Buried in this report was a
mention of the fact that the company, unlike other MLM operations such
as Amway, have set no limit on the number of distributors that can be
appointed. This means that basically the company doesnt give a toss
about the earnings potential of each distributor, knowing that, for
its own interests the higher the number of agents the more money it
will make. Think about it - imagine if Macdonalds granted 10
franchises at the same time for Silom road. The corporation might be
happy with this in the short term but the franchisees certainly would
not!
Unfortunately I have a suspicion that Nu-Skin (but not the bottom-rung
agents) will do well in Thailand, thus further worsening the Thai
balance of payments as all product is sourced from the US.
Andy.
They have invaded Sukhumvit! Easy to spot; just look for clean-cut
farangs. They are all over the place. Not unlike their postings in the
NGs, that have been easy to spot. <G> For fun, I have approached a
couple of folks on the street, in the bank, etc.; asking are you with Nu
Skin? They immediately respond into to their sales pitch. I know
direct marketing seems to be more acceptable in Asia, BUT I sure don't
like being approached by my friends.

I, for one, am not questioning now successful they are. What I do
question are their marketing tactics.

On the contrary, I and some of my friends, have not found our
experiences with Nu Skin to be *good* in anyway. And we're not even
talking about the product. Either they are so big they cannot control
their free-wheeling agents, or they are totally unprofessional in their
approach to a new market. Moreover, their sales tactics are somewhat
tacky. Rather than *promote* the merits of their products, their agents
prefer to sell by putting competing products down.
> You might not want to jump the gun on these people. They are definately

Yes, I agree. They are serious *pests* who invade your privacy by
bothering you with personal, unwanted e-mails, telephone calls to attend
meetings and gatherings, and personal visits to the office. Worse, they
never coordinate these mails, calls, visits. Different groups will trip
over one another as they attempt to recruit you into their team or to
sell you something. I really wish they'd get their act together and
behave more like the professional concern they're always claiming
themselves to be.
Suchada

They never talk about what exactly they are selling! They couldn't
care less. It could have been a bottle of tap water!

The sad tale is that some of the more educated folks have fallen
victims of this sleezy people as well.

Missionaries never do. They are without shame of all kind, because
they are annoying, harassing and bothering people in the name of a
Higher Power. Your decision to spread the gospel of your ridiculous
and offensive god does not repeat
NOT
imply any obligation on your listeners to be grateful.
We heard about your god. We understand your god. Now take your god
and hide it -- that is the suggestion given to you and which I'm
turning from a polite suggestion to an obvious hope.
It would be netcom.com, though. The jerk who mailed me about his
New-sin god just this morning was also netcom. You, perhaps, in a
god-loving disguise? One of your converts? One of your teachers? Who
knows, you get every offensive variety there at netcom.

May I remind all those Nu-skin nerds that a newsgroup is NOT a place
for carrying on a business, which is what they are doing with all their
postings.
Although I initially found the discussions interesting, and I am glad
that a few of us have been warned about the invasion of the Nu-skins,
I feel that they are rather like Jehovah's witnesses appearing on
your doorstop, with their offers of riches, salvation, heaven, ...
They are simply NOT WELCOME here !
I politely request them now to cease, desist, stop-it, keep out of this
newsgroup
- AND OUT OF MY LIFE !!

I note it could be from the Morman's since its headquarters is from
SLC, Utha. Please excuse me if this is wrong as I have every respect
for my friends who are Mormons.

I totally agree. During the past few weeks Bangkok, and some
other cities in Thailand, have been `invaded' by these Nu Skin
representatives. They are primarily after money money money. And where
does the money which these farang Nu Skin representatives go? - not to
Thailand, but to America, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, etc.
The basic fact is, if you read the Nu Skin documentation (and not
that on their WWW site), Nu Skin is basically a pyramid group, which
originated in the USA. This means that those who get in early - the
Americans, Australians, etc. - are the ones who make the big money. And
what benefit is that to Thai society? At least other multinationals, such
as McDonalds, Coke, etc., provide local employment opportunities and
purchase raw materials locally, all of which benefits the local economy.
But Nu Skin does not provide local employment opportunities - except for
Nu Skin representatives - and my understanding is that all Nu Skin
products will continue to be manufactured and packaged outside of
Thailand. Which essentially means no economic or social benefit to
Thailand, and will thus increase the level of Thailand's imports, and
contribute to a negative trade balance.
Bottom line - is Nu Skin good for Thailand, NO!

Suchada, they will not act together, because they are basically
individuals out for personal financial gain, not for organisational gain.
That is why some of my local middle-class friends claim to have been
approached by 5-6 different Nu Skin representatives over the past 2-3
weeks, with each representative unaware of the others' activities.

Alan Dawson makes more sense than Alan B. (is the `B' for barbarian, or
babble, or even worse, bacteria).
It is not Alan Dawson who needs to seek assistance, it is Nu Skin, Alan B.
et al. which/who require to be `treated' so that Nu Skin and its money
hungry farang supporters, who still roam Sukhumvit, do not continue to
`contaminate' Thailand, place an additional unwanted drain on the Thai
economy, and contribute to the growing gap between the `haves' and the
`have nots' in Thailand.
