These days every other Indian you meet in the US is a “Software Engineer”! We
hear again and again that the software industry in India is booming but until
recently there were no good sites dedicated to the Information Technology
industry in India. But now you some are beginning to crop up.

the Indian infotech industry to give IT news and features. It provides latest
and updated news. Its features include a comprehensive listing of over 600

Software Technology Parks in India (http://www.soft.net): is a very good
starting point.

Some Indian sites are dedicated to career search. Both prospective employers
and employment seekers can use these sites. Employers post their job openings
and search resumes. Employment seekers post their resumes and search the job
database.

3P Executive Search (http://www.3p-jobsearch.com): This is an executive search
firm based in India. Job seekers can search their job database for free
(membership required). Employers can post their advertisements for a period of
one month for free and search the resume database.

Career India (http://www.careerindia.com): CareerIndia is a comprehensive site
focused on careers for Indians. The current focus is on Indian IT
Professionals. Employers can use the profile match module to search the resume

Bharatiya Janata Party (http://www.bjp.org): is the only major political party
from India that is represented on the web. The site has profiles of prominent
BJP politicians. For many politicians it may not make sense investing in a
homepage because they create new political parties ever so often and it might
be difficult to keep their homepages up-to-date.

Kennedy School of Government South Asian Caucus and India Abroad Center for
Political Awareness (http://www.harvard.edu/~sasian) is a non-profit,
non-partisan organization committed to enhancing the political effectiveness of
the Indian-American community.

Bhartiya Democratic Party (http://www.bdp-india.org) is a grassroots political
movement that professes to bring honest, educated and concerned Indians (living
in India and abroad) together to challenge and reform the present Indian
political system.

Desabhakta Movement (http://www.desabhakta.org): I had high hopes for this site
founded by T.N. Seshan, but it looks like it did not receive sufficient public
support.

information related to Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, the Constitution of India,
various ministries of the government and a lot more.

50th Anniversary

1997 was a very special year for India, it was our 50th anniversary of our

these sites. These sites lack an important feature -- while you can specify the
last year you attended at a school, you cannot specify the last class/grade you
attended in that school.

Classmates (http://classmates.allindia.com): A very well developed site, which
has many schools and colleges. If your school is not listed you can request
them to add it to their database. The site allows you to search the database by
student’s name and school’s name.

India Alumni Net (http://www.infophil.com/India/Alumni): This is one of the
first good alumni sites on the internet. This site has an exhaustive list of
schools and universities. If your school is not listed you can get them to add
it for a one-time fee and the membership is free.

Few educational institutions have homepages yet. Many just don’t have the
resource and technology to create them. Perhaps NRIs can help their alma mater
in developing homepages.
