BTW, the informal form (second person singular) of the pronoun "you" is used
above, indicating that it is a friend or peer who sent you the message. To be
more formal or polite or when speaking to a stranger or someone of higher

That's true. The formal version, which is the plural used for more
than one person as well, would probably be harder to pronounce. It
is 'yasas, ti kanete?'. As spoken Greek is meaningless unless the
correct sylables are stressed, it's probably a good idea to stay
with 'yasou' unless you know how to say it properly.

What does this have to do with the other? I only use the phrase "stin yiasou"
when I am drinking a toast to someone. Why would I add the other part?
However, one would reply to the original phrase (Ti kaneis or kanete?) by
saying: "kala, k'seis? (Fine, and you?)

I know it's geia, I expect most others do as well, but there is a
nasty habit of using a kind of shorthand, especially when writing
Greek using English letters.
Ygeia means health, so, when making a toast you should say 'stin
ygeia sou' or 'stin ygeia sas' (your health).
Skeptoume is the 1st person plural, so try 'skeptw'.

(the way Aggie spelled it) was in my Greek-Hungarian dictionary but apparently
must be a rarer variate of the verb "to think". It is indeed spelled
"skeftomai" and means more precisely "to think about" or "ponder". They also
gave the noun form of skeftomai, which is skefi.
BTW, Alex, was that word that I used in my message to Aggie a real one (giataki
mou) and did I use it correctly, or did I use the wrong form for a tomcat? (G)

That's what I thought when I first saw what Aggie had written. I assumed that
he was writing in the first person singular, which immediately told me that it
was a fourth conjugation verb. However, I HATE fourth conjugation verbs in
Greek, because if I don't know the context of the word I also often mistake the
first person singular for the first person plural of the other conjugations.

However, as I pointed out in my earlier message to you, what Aggie wrote was
also correct and not a misspelling. There really is a word "skeftome" (or,
better yet, skeftomai), which means to "think about" and is also one of those
awful fourth conjugation verbs.

there is no such word as "skeftoume". Your spell checker is wrong if it
contains this word.
A correct form would be "skeftoumai". And all singular such verbs, must
contain "ai" in the end. For many persons it would be "skeftomaste".

So I think that correct are both uses, but the first one is literally
correct, instead the second one is correct by everyday use in some regions.

Nothing strange about it at all. I am a very busy person and can barely find
enough time to keep up with this ng and my e-mails; in fact, I can't even keep
up in here. I once tried to participate in the Greek boards on AOL but it was
just too overwhelming. Too many messages, too little time! Quite frankly, I
don't know how people like Galina and Leo and others of their ilk find the time
to read so many newsgroups, let alone respond to them.
I would very much like to participate in a couple of other newsgroups, or at
least have the time to read them, but am afraid that I have to pick and choose,
and scg is my number one choice. In short, when it comes to socializing on the
net, this group is more than enough for me to handle. Besides, let's face it,
where are you going to find a livlier and more stimulating place for discussion
that in here? :-))) Why do you think we attract so many people from the other

Yes, I do have another screen name...two, in fact, one of which is my real name
and is known to this group (KrisztinaTennant ... look it up, if you like) and
which I had planned to use to replace Opa. But it seems that people have grown
used to Opa and want me to keep that name, so she's still here. As for the
other screen name, it's my company name; I use it for professional purposes
only and never for newsgroups, for obvious reasons. After all, one can't be too
careful when it comes to one's professional life, especially when one works in
certain fields ;-)

The word "Erhome" can also be spelled with an "e". Check it in you spell
checker.
The "ai" ending denotes the impersonal form "we are coming"
The "e" ending is the first personal form.
And as you said you can tell the difference in pronunciation.

Vasif, Beanos are magical little OTC white tablets that enable one to eat
