Luebeck: 10 people were killed and over 50 injured in a fire at
a refugee asylum in Luebeck. The fire broke out, apparently in
more than one place, and spread rapidly through a refugee asylum near
downtown Luebeck. Many people had to jump and suffered numerous
broken bones, at least 4 children have died. One family is still
missing. The refugees were mostly from what Germans call "Black
Africa". 10 minutes after the fire call went in, police checked
the identity documents of 3 young men, one a known right-winger,
who were parked in view of the blaze. They were not arrested at the
scene, but taken into custody within a few hours. It has not
been determined if arson is indeed the cause of the fire.
Burgwedel (near Hamburg): In the same night a molotov cocktail
was thrown into a pile of boxes at a refugee asylum here. Some of
the refugees saw what happened and extinguished the flame.
In related news:
Germany deported 3 Kurdish youths (18, 17 and 14) to Turkey, separating
them from their brother and father who remain in Germany. It was
thought, said the government, that their mother was in Turkey. This
was, says their lawyer, not the case. Their application for asylum
was rejected and they were immediately deported.
