Hi all,

Could anyone please suggest a book to understand SMI S or WBEM/CIM. I am reading
the SMI S standard but it seems too overwhelming.

I want to build a GUI application that would display information about storage arrays(for now) as a
personal project.

Could I get the information through a WBEM client/Server which get it from the Object Manager or Provider?

I don't have proper idea about the how the management of storage networking devices could be
implemented.

Any help in the regard is greatly appreciated.

Hi Anukalp,

The following is a good book for understanding WBEM and CIM.

A Practical Approach to WBEM/CIM Management

by Chris Hobbs

There is also a lot information available on the web.

Your GUI application, what language do you need to use and what OS platforms will it need to run on?

Your GUI application will be your WBEM Client which will communicate over a WBEM Protocol, most likely CIM-XML, to a WBEM Server which will host one or more providers.  One of those providers will need to be an SMI-S Provider which has implemented the Array Profile if you are to get information about storage arrays.

I hope this helps.

Peter
