Hello all,

The new release is baked and ready for consumption!

Since there are so many changes, I won't release onto the Android Market immediately. I am uploading to SlideMe and AndroidPit first. Please volunteer to download and test from the above sites. If all goes well, I will roll the release to the Android Market a bit later.

The changes marked in green are new to Pro version 2.5 as well. The others were already present in 2.4.

Major changes include:
  • Switched to the Revised NGC catalog by Dr Wolfram Steinicke.
  • DSOs are now rendered with coloured outlines instead of just points (see attached screenshot).
The outlines indicate the apparent size and position angle of the object while the color and style indicates the type of object.
    • Green oval = Galaxy
    • Yellow circle with dotted boundary = Open Cluster
    • Orange circle with a cross mark = Globular cluster
    • Purple oval = Nebula
  • High accuracy Ephemeris of the Galilean moons (four brightest moons of Jupiter)
  • High levels of zoom possible now. You can zoom all the way to 0.2 degrees of FOV (from the previous limit of 3 degrees)
  • Object description in lists of object (see screenshot)
  • Added a search button beside the description of centered object.
  • Buttons to zoom in and out
  • A button to switch to manual mode. This is will be available even after adding an alignment.
Pretty convenient especially at high-zoom levels.
Minor changes include:
  • Sizes are now shown in both dimensions.
For example, M31's size is now shown as 191' x 62' instead of as 9300.7 (the area in square arc-minutes).
  • The centered object highlight is now much better and animated (instead of the green fuzzy circle of before).
  • Handle all exception during touch gestures.. which should reduce the number of FCs
  • Higher resolution textures and lines (on devices that support it)
  • The extended labels are a bit more intelligent now. The line length dynamically adjusts to the current FOV.
  • The text display now respects the font-size settings in your Android device.
(This can be changed for example by using the Spare parts application)
  • Fixed a rendering problem in non-English locales.
  • Higher precision delta display while searching.
  • Updated Hungarian translations.

Cheers and wish you a happy holiday season. (Hoping that's a universally compatible wish).

Btw, this was the same problem that I previously mentioned as an error on LG Optimus 2x. It turned out not to be a device problem but rather that an OpenGL shader didn't compile in the Italian locale!

So, if your phone's default language is not English and you ever had a problem with the stars not rendering correctly, then this version should fix it.
