I plan to work at the event at Hillcrest during the day (or at least the pancake breakfast) and I will also be available for the movie set up and tear down.

Subject: Meeting Minutes and Other Stuff :)
Happy Thursday, Alliance members!
Thanks to Courtney and her fast fingers, I’m attaching the minutes from our meeting last week.
In thinking ahead to our upcoming movie (less than a month away!), I’m making this request for volunteers for the day of the event. We need people for the following:
n Set up a table in the lobby with SEA info
n Act as host/MC and give a brief presentation to the audience before the movie begins
n Staff the SEA table in the lobby for about ½ hour after the movie, talking to any people interested in more information about SEA
n Tear down the table/pack up SEA info
If you’re willing to do any of these essential tasks for the event, please let me know. In the meantime, please spread the word about the movie and feel free to e-mail our poster that has all the details.
Thanks!

Question for Chaz regarding the listserve with Google and/or Yahoo:
If we have a few dollars, would it make sense to simply purchase our own domain name? I think I pay about $48 or $50 per year for mine through Register.com. Not sure if having a web site or web page(s) would cost more?
Just a thought . . .
Thanks for your input, Chaz. I agree that – if people actually use the listserve feature – it is much easier and more efficient for the group members to communicate using a group instead of relying on e-mail chains that will eventually miss people or get filtered out by spam filters.
Also, thanks for all of the work you have done for the Alliance. It is great to have a techie on board!

You can register a domain name for one year
for under $10 at godaddy.com and other places.
The biggest difference between a domain name and a google/yahoo group is the
ability to easily send emails to the group members.
Setting up a domain name/website does not include the ability to send messages
as we have been doing as a google group.
But a domain name/website does give you more visibility on the Internet as well
as a means to promote the organization's goals/etc without much
expense/overhead....
The combination of a google/yahoo group and a website would seem to be an
efficient way to accomplish both internal discussion and external exposure....
Probably something that should be discussed and decided at a future meeting.
I would be willing to design and code a website for SEA for free as long as it
does not exceed ten-twelve or so webpages....
The content and layout of the website is also something that should be
discussed and decided.
And the use of a consistent logo/etc is quite important as the graphics on a
website should be duplicated in all promo/etc....
A website is pretty much the same thing as a business sign along the road -
everyone will see it and associate it with the organization....
Chaz
ALL,
I spoke to Kathy Schultz from the Herald yesterday, they are going to run both of our adds on the 4th, laid next to each other about a quarter of the page in size. Stedem Wood has agreed to do it as a donation plus $95 it would nomally cost about $500 +, I can split the cost from the DAV what do you think. In addtion I need tp print out about 1500 flyers both events so they can be stuffed in the Burlington and Mount Vernon Chamber news letters that should be mailed out on November 5, 2010.
Take a look, this is what is happening for the Veterans event at Hillcrest. (attachments and links) Two flyovers a P3 at 9:45 am, and a second flyer at 11:00 sharp as the ceremony concludes by a Growler. The SH60 Helo will land and be with us for the duration.

Rich:
IMHO, splitting the $95 cost to have both color flyers printed in the Herald would be a good idea. I will defer to the finance committee (if we have one) as to whether we have the funds in our budget. Hopefully we will recoup our costs from donations at the door, however I am not up to par on exactly what the total cost of the movie and theater will be. If we cannot come up with $47.50, I will find a sponsor to cover our half.
What do others think?

I think that’s terrific that we can get such good coverage in the Herald…..I don’t know the exact state of our finances at this point, since all the expenses aren’t in, but I would anticipate that we can cover our half of the advertising. Thank you, Jim, for your most generous offer to foot the bill J And thanks to you, Rich, for getting the advertising taken care of!

Just heard back from Blade Chevy that they’re putting a notice about the movie up on their readerboard. Keep an eye out for it!

Nice!
Has anyone seen movie posters posted at any of the usual places? I made a quick run through downtown MV and did not see any except for the big one at the theater.
