Subject: [NCEAELDERABUSE] Elder Abuse Curriculum for State Judicial Educators now Available!

Dear friends of the Elder Abuse Listserv,

You can now find our brand new elder abuse curriculum for state judicial educators on our CEC website (www.eldersandcourts.org).  You’ll find it under the ‘Resources’ tab on the right side of the home page, or just click here.  The website includes the instructor’s manual, PDFs of products, actual PowerPoints, accompanying resources, and evaluation forms.  We partnered with our friends at the University of California at Irvine Center of Excellence on Elder Abuse and Neglect on this project and we are grateful for the support provided by the Retirement Research Foundation of Chicago.

The curriculum is broken into three compact modules. Module 1 discusses the physiology of aging, Module 2 offers information on how to identify elder abuse and neglect, and Module 3 focuses on crafting court responses.  Given the limited amount of training time available for the judiciary, we developed the program so that each module can be delivered separately, and the entire curriculum can be presented in 3-1/2 hours.  While the curriculum is designed for state judicial educators, we invite everyone to use the information that may be relevant to your audience.  We simply ask that you let us know if you use any part of the curriculum.

I will be premiering the curriculum in Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon, for the joint National Association for Court Management/National Association of State Judicial Educators conference.  If you know of any court professionals who may be attending, feel free to pass this information along.  Also, you are welcome to forward this post as you see appropriate.

We hope that this is only the start of more ambitious work that will improve the court’s response to elder abuse and neglect on a national scale.

Brenda
