Hi guys!

I really need some help here. I run the superpack installation, the
package installation completes successfully but I get the below error
in the terminal that opens after the installation completes.

I am running Lion on Mac - latest update (10.7.2).

Cheers :)

Ben,

Hey, sorry to hear about your troubles.  Sadly I'm a linux guy so I don't have much advice at the moment.  We recently taught a class at a local hackerspace and there were multiple people that had lion installed that had similar issues.  We are working on getting a Mac 1.2 superpack built here soon so it supports lion as well (which has spurred the delay of the release).

At the moment none of our mac people have Lion installed, so if you could help us nail down this bug it would be very much appreciated until we get can get Lion setup.

Is there anyway you can try these steps here:

p.s. Thanks for including the error report, those type of things help us diagnose problems much easier.

Hi Ben,

So, the superpack installation is not going to work on lion
unfortunately -- the new version of python means that all dependencies
need to be re-compiled and there's very slim chance of being able to
build anything that's going to be cross-compatible with snow leopard.

I haven't had a chance to get access on a lion machine to build yet --
but I'm planning on upgrading in the next week or so. Basically I
would try using the manual installation instructions with the
following tweaks:

Follow the instructions at:
https://github.com/fonnesbeck/ScipySuperpack#readme rather than using
our 10.6-specific superpack hack.

Then install homebrew:
usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.github.com/gist/323731)"

Then install opencv, but link cv.so to the new python version:

ln -s /usr/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/cv.so
/Library/Python/2.7/site-packages/cv.so

you may also need to downgrade ipython from 0.11 to 0.10.2

Sorry for the hassle -- we should hopefully have a working superpack
once we get this working, but unfortunately lion has been a bit of a
challenge.

For what it's worth, I did kind of get it installed on Lion.
By "kind of" I mean that I did manage to build everything and can
import SimpleCV.

I followed the info here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3681496/opencv-macport-python-bindings
and here:
https://gist.github.com/1185247/5bbf02ec5970d0945e12c7c967f1d7ceca89adf9

but used python27 as the target instead of 2.6

port install py27-numpy
port install opencv +python27
port install py27-game

and I'm probably leaving out some details, but eventually one can do:

pip install simplecv

That said, I haven't had much time to play around other than verifying
'import SimpleCV' works.

I tried out one of the examples and I was able to see my iSight turn
on, but then the dungeon collapses with the following error message:

SimpleCV-1.2-py2.7.egg/SimpleCV/ImageClass.py:132: UserWarning:

Hope this at least gets you past the build issues.

So doing some more digging, i found that the error:

TypeError: CvArr argument 'src' must be IplImage, CvMat or
CvMatND. Use fromarray() to convert numpy arrays to CvMat or cvMatND
comes from OpenCV/modules/python/src2/cv2.cv.hpp:
static int convert_to_CvArr(PyObject *o, CvArr **dst, const char
*name)

Does this mean that my version of OpenCV didn't build with numpy
support?

That could be what it means.

For Opencv when running:
cmake ..

It should state whether it will build with python support, and if will have numpy support.  You may want to verify this as well.

FYI This is also the error message that gets sent out if you are
trying to access a camera that is already in use or that isn't
supported. It basically means "camera fail".

Can you load an image from a file ie Image("foo.jpg").show()?

Yeah, it looks like a general error.

>>> SimpleCV.Image("/Users/jack/Desktop/WalmartLogo.png").show()

I did attempt to build with a patched port, since it seems that building with numpy wasn't quite working. The patched Portfile was obtained from this ticket:
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/32528

The next step will be to build OpenCV from source and verify that numpy is working then.

I managed to get it working, but I had to build OpenCV manually to
tweak the directories it would link against. Otherwise I'd get a
segfault.

Here's what I had to pick:

If you have any notes or could walk me thru start to finish what you
did to get a successful lion build, I'd appreciate it. I still
haven't had much luck.

Sure.

At this point, I think it's even working with the patched MacPorts.
Here's what I did:

0. Install & update MacPorts
http://www.macports.org/
after installing, make sure to update your ports by doing a
`port selfupdate`

1. Patch MacPorts
download the diff files from here:
https://trac.macports.org/ticket/32528
stick them in the port file directory by executing:
cd `port dir opencv`
patch the Portfile by running:
patch < Portfile-opencv.diff
copy the rest of the diffs into files:
2. Install OpenCV port
run: port install opencv
that will automatically build opencv and pull the dependencies
and build the python27 bindings.
if not, you might want to specify them with:
port install +python27

3. Install SimpleCV.
I personally use virtualenv to manage my python libraries.
http://pypi.python.org/pypi/virtualenv/
After creating a virtualenv and activating it, I simply ran the
following to install SimpleCV:

pip install SimpleCV

this then pulls down the latest from PyPI which is version 1.2.

4. Test.
I then tested this by running the following program to verify that
it was working:

from SimpleCV import Display, Camera

c = Camera()
#d = Display.Display()
d = Display()

while True:
if not d.isDone():
i = c.getImage()
i.save(d)

And this time I see the camera light go on and capturing video!

Hope this helps.

Hi list

The *.diff files are called *.patch file at this link, no?

   stick them in the port file directory by executing:
            cd `port dir opencv`
       patch the Portfile by running:
            patch < Portfile-opencv.diff
       copy the rest of the diffs into files:
