Is the spam issue on the forums going to be sorted? I know there have been discussions regarding the spam issue before but yet again today I go on to find that the conversation I started is nowhere to be seen because of the sheer volume of spam.

It is like I'm on page 14 and still sifting through spam from dkds, surely you can add some flood protection? The posts have been submitted in the space of a couple of hours, have a max posts per day of 10 or something for new users, or have a reputation system similar to StackOverflow, please just do something.

So over 350 spam posts by the same user in just one forum. The discussion board has no chance unless you do something, or you let someone else do something. I've got a hell of a lot of experience in running forums, and have tackled this issue before, and work with SS on a daily basis, so if you need I can lend a hand? References available if you need them.

After the last updates it has been sort of quiet on the forums for a while, but it looks like people have found ways around bulk spamming yet again.

I try to check at least once or twice every day and so do other moderators, but unfortunately at this point we can't prevent situations like this. Anyway - the 350 are deleted :)

Thanks Martine. None of my forums have been spammed in over two years, after an extensive code review and the renaming of a few URL's. I've spent a number of years researching spam bots and developing solutions, if the problem persists, I think firstly you should change the URL's for the registration forms etc. and then implement some spam prevention on the forum itself.

I'm sure you remember this discussion :)  https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/silverstripe-dev/qnIFobIM6Os

A lot of work has been done on this. As for changing URL's - that is not something us moderators can do. We just remove :)

The breaking of the RSS feed certainly hasn’t help with moderation.

Also there is some caching going on, where spammessages sometimes stay in the list for a while even if they are removed, so I find myself checking twice :(

At this point the RSS feed is working for me: http://www.silverstripe.org/community/forums/rss

I suppose it might have been broken before? I don't know...

http://www.silverstripe.org/forums/rss, being the original URL, throws a 404

Yes, I only just noticed that the current forums url is silverstripe.org/community/forums. My old bookmark still worked because original page urls get redirected. But the rss feed doesn't.

Because I never bookmarked the rss, I just typed rss after forums and never noticed :)

I'll look into getting a rewrite on the old rss feed URL and perhaps a direct link to it from the forum page.

Yes spam is a pain, we already have a number of layers battling the spam, still some gets through.

Actually quite a lot is being blocked at the point of registration which you never see.
