The next round of the Westpac Innovation Challenge is open, focussing on digital innovation in agribusiness with a $40K cash prize.

You don't need to be an agritech startup strictly - you can apply as long as your solution can be applied in an agribusiness use case. For example, you can have a drone/ mapping/ app technology that can also be used by farmers to get live data on their livestock movements. Or a device that plugs in to a smartphone to measure soil salinity. Or a software to help agronomists predict seed/ food prices.

Check the competition details and apply here:

Hi Colette,

Good to see BlueChilli and Westpac taking on the initiative into Agritech so quickly after some great announcements for the sector by the government.

It appears (from the application form) that perhaps really early stage ideas are better suited to apply.

How would businesses that have been around for a while, got traction (hundreds of thousands in sales), but now need to reinnovative using modern tech (considering their older tech prototype) be received via the application process? Would love to get more detail on that before i ask an amazing business i know to apply.

Also, how are entries judged and who is on the judging panel (just bluechilli or just westpac or both? and which people specifically? and is there a judging process/criteria they will follow or is it purely subjective on those people's opinion?)

(asking this as part of the forum as i'm sure others will also be interested in your response :)

cheers,

simran.

Similar to the last challenge discussion on here, what are the conditions around IP ownership? Is the $40k prize required to be spent with BlueChilli?

9. During the Development Period, the Winner agrees to grant exclusive rights to the Westpac Group and its partners(including BlueChilli) to co-develop the winning concept and also grants the Westpac Group a first right of refusal relating to the purchase or licensing of any associated intellectual property rights.
