"The Sheriff told Alice that they have been watching Bob and waiting for a chance to arrest him again to get him off the streets as they know he is a danger to himself and others."

But didn't the judge revoke his license forever? Wouldn't just driving--in whatever state he was in, even sober--be enough to arrest him?

(I know, I'm hopelessly naive...)

Driving is a right, not a privilege, you can't lose your license permanently for something so minor as almost killing a cyclist...

Oh, and, in case it wasn't clear, </sarcasm>

yes if the police knew he didn't have a license and saw him driving a
car (sober or drunk) then yes they could arrest him. there are other
things to take into account though. driving without a license is
shockingly a rather low level offense so maybe they were waiting for
another dui which would carry heavier weight.

if he hasnt been deterred already from driving they would probably
want to get him on a more serious charge. there are all sorts of news
stories i have read of people on dui conviction number x without a
license getting another dui conviction.

that being said there were certain parts of the blog that didnt make
much sense to me. how would he make his keys work for another car?

"He left anyway…tried to get into a car that was not his (a small
sedan) finally realized he was actually driving a Cadillac Escalade
SUV (you can see how easy it would be to mistake the two right?!?) and
got his keys to work in the SUV."

grand theft auto with a dui conviction if true would certainly be a
felony more so than driving a car sober without a license.

I read that as, "The car that belonged to him was an Escalade. He first tried his keys on a small sedan, failed, kept trying, eventually realized he had arrived in his Escalade, found it, got in, and managed to get it started."

IDK, I used to be able to turn on my car with my mom's car's keys (both Fords), but that was long ago. I thought that kind of thing didn't happen anymore with all the electronic key systems and whatnot.

When they countered that they had witnesses saying otherwise, Schiro told deputies "damit, you got me," according to the police report.
