Super cool story, and one I think many of us can relate to.

Yes I can relate to that give or take 5mph and an order of magnitude or two in miles.

Congratulations on so much riding Eric!

Exactly.  So much of this resonated with me (though I never could've done the everyday for a year+ thing).

Same. The day my doc told me I'd never run again (spoiler: I've run again) was a dark, dark 24 hours for me. It's amazing how these activities shape our lives. Great write-up!

Working from home means I don’t have any kind of routine to distract me from, well, the world. And the novel I’m writing is a direct outgrowth of that. The end result is I’ve spent much of this year in a pretty dark place in my head.

Doing team bike challenge was amazing, but I just didn’t have the mental resilience to to motivate myself.

Eric’s story got me off my ass and back on the bike, and it felt so, so good! Thank you, Eric!

Thanks a lot. I can't count the number of times I've hit the website, or these group pages. At this point if I put an s in the browser bar sf2g Google groups shows up. I've written here before about what it meant to me to find these pages, and my story has shown up here occasionally in the past, in shorter chunks. :-). It can't be said enough, that what was created here is life changing, in at least my case and it seems like many others.

I'm no social butterfly, but having a place to coordinate rides, read relevant info on routes and discuss aspects of the commute have been both helpful and inspiring. I am confident that without it I would not be a cyclist today.

I see the history of the riders and the rides as a continuum, and recognize that my story arc is similar in many ways to many people here, though as yet shorter than most. Thank you for letting me be a part of it.

Happy New Year.

Definitely a great story Eric, thanks for sharing and for the shout out at the end :) Reminds me of the first year or two after I moved to SF and got fed up with the shuttles. The first time I rode skyline, I bonked so hard I almost passed out. I would definitely not be the person I am today without SF2G.
