This is a super important missing protected bike lane. Please sign up at the link below if you can join. And please invite new friends to join us!
Background:
@PeopleProtected has acted once before at Howard and 7th. This is the intersection where Kate Slattery was killed while biking. She was killed the same day Heather Miller was killed while biking in Golden Gate Park. The death of these two women was the impetus for many of us to get more involved in fighting for safe bicycle infrastructure. For me personally, I saw in these women my wife who bicycles daily to her job. We can not lose any more friends or family to street violence and weak political will.
Howard street needs a protected bike lane. Given the presence of overhead MUNI wires, this protected lane has been massively delayed by the fire department. A solution is entirely possible. A double wide, 2-way bike lane would be incredible for our bicycle network, and would be wide enough to be usable as an emergency access lane. Our phenomenal engineers at SFMTA have proven their design skills on upper market. We need to give SFMTA the political cover to build this critical protected bike lane. As Maureen, the inventor of the @PeopleProtected Bike Lane says, "If the city won't protect us, we must stand on the line to protect our own"
Please join us May 2nd. Help grow our POWER by bringing new friends who want to safely bicycle, scoot and walk in our city. We can only do this together.
