+1

First time on this route.  Style 2 says 16-18 mph average; I *think* I can manage 16mph, but there is no way I can do 18mph.  Should I join a different ride?

Hi Aaron,

The style speed for this ride really applies only to the flat sections (mostly along CA-1) since there is so much climbing. Here's an example ride:

Another thing to note is that the main climb is on a very pretty but steep dirt trail (purisima creek trail). The condition of the trail is very good and it is suited to road bikes but parts of it are quite steep.

Don't mean to discourage you at all, just want to be up-front about the route :)

HI Peter,

always wanted to try this route. Pace should hopefully be fine (if not I would be fine to be dropped).

QQ on the "steep dirt trail" -- Do you think it's also fine w 23mm? Would have some concerns if either the dirty parts are very long and/or the steepest part happen to be super dirty (also downhill).

Thanks,
Christian

(not a +1)

The trail is series of steep rises. It's all uphill. 23s should be fine though if it's damp and you have tight clearance between your rear tire and your frame it could slow you down.

Not joining this tomorrow unfortunately. Have to be in the office before 10 tmrw and not sure I would. Will call a BEX instead.

Thanks a lot for the details, Cordelia!
And thanks for calling, Peter!

Still keen to do it some day so will keep an eye on future ride calls.

Thanks Peter.  3 hours and 12 minutes?  That is substantially faster than I thought.  I'll join Cordelia's Skyline tomorrow and try Half-Moon Bay on the weekend.

Doh, got lost and ended up on 92; looks like I got off the 1 an exit early.  I think hills and a dirt road would be more fun than an endless stream of cars buzzing past:)  Thanks for the GPX track Peter.

Yeah, you want Higgins Canyon Road. If you are going south-bound on CA-1, it's after Half Moon Bay proper. You go past the Ford dealership and make a left at the fire station. That's too bad you missed it; hope you can join me another time!
