startSession using RemoteWebDriver

Hi,

When I try to use RemoteWebDriver, it throws the following error
while starting the session

java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String cannot be cast to
java.util.Map
at
org.openqa.selenium.remote.RemoteWebDriver.startSession(RemoteWebDriver.java:
118)
at org.openqa.selenium.remote.RemoteWebDriver.(RemoteWebDriver.java:
76)
at org.openqa.selenium.remote.RemoteWebDriver.(RemoteWebDriver.java:
84)

any idea on how to get around this? thanks!

Care to send the line of code you are using to connect? (also what are you connecting to? grid or standalone). 

Also please try updating to the latest version (2.18).
