In Selenium2 the same jar can work in the below three modes

1. As a standalone server (which means you can use this to work with DefaultSelenium)
2. As a Selenium2 Grid
3. As a Selenium2 Node (which can both act as a SeleniumRC as well as a Selenium WebDriver node, so you can essentially use DefaultSelenium to point to grid, or RemoteWebDriver to point to grid and it will work)

1 - is for local executions ONLY.
2 and 3 are applicable for REMOTE Executions

Thanks & Regards

So u use this selenium-server-standalone-2.14.0.jar ?

How can we get source and javadocs for this ?

If its a maven dependency, then you can have maven pull down both the source and the javadocs for you.

The selenium-server-standalone.jar has everything in it you need to
run Selenium server tasks. With the other one you would have to
supply the missing pieces on your system and make sure they were in
your CLASSPATH.

If you are talking about the ZIP files then the selenium-server one
includes both jar files, plus a jar file with the server sources and a
libs subdirectory with a bunch of the dependent libraries needed by
the server.
