when nothing selected (placeholder) in a submit form, http request show an empty string as value

This seems to be an old issue but I haven't found a solution yet

If you submit a form with a select and nothing is selected there is no value for said select. With select2, the http request has an empty string as value.

Is it possible to use select2 and, when the user has made no selection (i.e placeholder is selected) no value sent at all ?
