hi everyone, on Friday I got the shocking, sad news that my friend Ori had gone. Many of you got to know Ori from Seance (myself included), the many exchanges here, and many of us here in Australia and the USA were lucky to get to know him in person.

Writing this is very hard. I know that Church fans here in Australia and overseas who got to know Ori will grieve for this lovely man who had so much to give, who always had a huge big smile on his face despite the fact that he was suffering from a terrible illness and in constant pain....something he kept pretty well hidden. He ended his life in Switzerland with his ashes to be scattered over a lake there.

His friend Laetitia and I have decided to set up a myspace site to honour him at http://www.myspace.com/forori so that his family and friends can share some of Ori's life here.
It seems a little strange to set up a myspace but his immediate family overseas were left with little to remember him by in recent years so we will share photos and music he recorded.

Ori also had his own myspace  http://www.myspace.com/oashman which is still there.

If you could share your memories of Ori there or just want to leave a comment (his sister Natalie would really appreciate that and it will help her immensely) , please please do so or email me privately.

with thanks.
Sue

I'm REALLY sorry to hear that! Very sad news - though I never met him in person he has long been a part of our little 'in crowd' here, and I'll miss seeing his posts :-(

Rest peacefully, Ori.

Really sad to hear about Ori, I had no idea that he was ill or in
pain. My heart goes out to his friends and family.

I am really sorry - even though I never met Ori, I have been a part of Seance for many years now and I always read his posts, he was one of those names I had come to know and to sort of be acquainted with- very sad to hear these news.

I just found out this terrible news through a friend in Japan.
Ori was an amazing guy. I never met him in person but we bonded a bit
through e-mail
and he helped me get through a terrible period in my life.
He is the type of guy who would do anything for anyone.
At one point when i was so screwed up he really was about to take over
Violet Town
when i had to choose it or food for myself. He helped me believe in
myself
and helped me make the first step into the doors of NA.
Man I will always remember his common sense approach.
Its just so true that sometimes the good ones just go away. I bet his
has the angels all smiling.
Thanks for your help Ori, you'll always be in my memries.

This is indeed a very sad day. How terrible to awaken to the news.

I only knew Ori through his posts here on Seance, and through a few personal
emails, but he seemed like such a nice person. I don't know what his
physical problems were, but I have Fibromyalgia, and live with terrible
chronic pain every day. Just like Ori, to see me on the street or to speak
with me you'd never know how much pain I'm in and how challenging my life
is. Chronic pain is a cruel thing. It simply eats you up and does quite a
number on your head. There are times when your self worth is zero when it's
difficult or sometimes impossible to do the simplest of daily tasks.

My heart goes out to all of Ori's family and friends.

I have too never met Ori in person but I have communicated with him
via email on numerous occasions and come to realize what a great
person he is and will always be.

Very lovely fellow and never new he was ill. I wish his family the
best and positive light and energy.

Ori is definitely with the angels strumming away on a 12-string harp
making golden sounds with the best.

Like all Seancers, he is a wonderful soul and can now really be a peace.

My words maybe be few but my sentiments are true.

Take care Ori. You will be missed.

Randy and Glenn,

Please dont suffer in silence. Reach out to people, even if you dont know
them personally. People do care and I'd hate to think that someone was doing
that and needed a shoulder to lean on. Sometimes I think its easier when you
dont know them, if that makes sense?

Thank you for your concern Sue. I've been married for 15 years to the most
wonderful woman in the world, and she gives me a tremendous amount of
strength. So does the beautiful blessing of our 3 year old son. The love
of my family and friends, as well as my passion for music, gets me through
the toughest of days!

Love to all on Seance!

I wish Ori got to know before he decided to depart this world just how much
he will be missed.

You can leave a condolence message at http://www.myspace.com/forori

It will really help his family to hear anything, his sisters have joined the
site so they can learn more about their long lost brother.

Sorry to hear this news.  I also have never met Ori but have read many of his posts here on Seance.  He always was very insightful and seemed to have quite a quick wit.  Sorry to lose a fellow Seancer and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and I hope he is resting in peace.  Hopefully he had a great Church song playing as the angels came to take him away.

I like most who had some contact with Ori knew nothing of his pain.
I am still very sad about Ori's death. Pain is something that is not
foreign
to me. If we could all just lift ourselves to the place of grace where
we could
shine out to others in the face of our great pain to not let it show.
I have lots to learn from persons such as Ori.

I myself have been experiencing a bit of sunshine in my life as of
late, almost 17 months without the need for a street drug. So if you
don't see me post its probably because i'm away from the computer out
smelling the flowers. I can only offer advice and help to those who
are still suffering the effects of these deadly drugs, they are a hard
habit to break....

It's really hard to believe that Ori's gone. I had just heard from
him May 20. He was one of the 7 people I send a copy of Marty's
Cleveland show I recorded. I wonder if he ever got to hear it. If
you've heard the recording or have seen Marty's recent shows, you
know he makes a special dedication before playing "After Eight." This
was from Cleveland...

"Ok, well, um, this is kind of a funny moment in the show, because,
um, I want to dedicate this song to all the lost--you know, to Pete
Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger, to Elliott Smith, to Paul Hester of
Crowded House--people who took their own lives. People who took their
own lives for some unbelievably ridiculous reason that they--ahh--you
know.... What goes on with that? What goes on with that, people
taking their own lives? And I knew Paul Hester quite well and he was
one lovely man. Lovely sweet man. And to think that he did what he
did is just beyond understanding. But, you know, presuming that all
life is absurd and nobody really quite knows what's going on, I
decided to write a song about it."

After Eight

You told me you were coming after five
If I'm alive, after five
I told you it'd be better after eight
When it's too late, after eight

And if you hear a floorboard creak
Be sure that it's not me
My feet won't touch the carpet
Now the world has set me free

If you wanna be there in good time
Get off the line, drink your wine
If you don't think you'll make it, it's okay
Gone tomorrow here today

And if silence is what shocks you
It's just a different kind of noise
It's bad for you, but it's good for me
I didn't have much choice

---

I have 207 posts by Ori in my Seance mail folder. I think I'll browse
through them tonight.

Ori, you were a true fan, and a lovely man.
RIP

There was rarely a more enthusiastic fan than Ori. Mike, I thought of After Eight too when i heard the news and now I wonder what Ori was thinking when Marty played it that night in Sydney.

Thank you from me for the cds too. I will try and pull myself together and burn some copies to share. (We just buried another friend the Monday before and so this has just thrown me for a six)

If the first 3 aussies to get in touch could do so i will get them out to you as soon as i can... thank god its the long weekend!! vodka all 'round. A toast to Ori! He was stubborn, he was opinionated,  he was so passionate for all the things he loved,  and Im honoured to have known him. Still cant believe he's gone :(

I've been a little late in receiving the extremely sad news of Ori's passing.
I only knew him through a few personal emails and his many great postings here on Seance.
I loved his very passionate reviews of gigs that he attended-and if he wasn't totally happy, he'd say so-which was always a breath of fresh air.
I've checked out his website so that I can now put his face to his name.
A very difficult and heartbreaking time for his family and friends.
His absence will be a huge loss to our small community here.
RIP Ori.
