Hello, I'm Kazuma Furuhashi (GitHub: @284km)

I would like to continue discussing about this issue.

Please tell me the status of this project.

This library seems to have the same interfaces as sciruby/rubyplot. Does this have plans to be merged?

In the above issue, I heard that GRruby-extension is finally going to be merged to sciruby/rubyplot.
When will it be merged? Please let me know if you can estimate.

By the way, I'm a member of Red Data Tools project: https://red-data-tools.github.io/
One of our policies is "Collaborate across the Ruby community".
So I want to develop visualization tools in Ruby with you.
Which repository should we use for developing visualization tool?

FYI: https://github.com/red-data-tools/charty is our repository for our visualization tool.

Regards,
Kazuma Furuhashi

We actually have two visualization projects, i.e., with two backends. The
other is https://github.com/Arafatk/magick-rubyplot. These were
developed under the Google Summer of Code program by Pranav and
Arafat. The idea for SciRuby is to provide a common Ruby API where
users can select either backend. And then you may have specific
functions taking advantage of either backend (they have different
strengths and weaknesses).

Yes, we want to make them available for SciRuby.

That is most excellent. Let's invite Arafat and Pranav here to present
their projects and discuss how we should move forward (GSoC has
ended). They have nice blogs too.

Hi Kazuma,
First of all,
Thanks a lot for asking this question. We are really glad that you are taking interest in our work.

Right now, we just finished Gsoc and we have two libraries for Visualizations GR-Plot and MagickPlot. If you would like to use GR Plots right now and try it out then head over to ( https://github.com/pgtgrly/GRruby-extension ).

Both the libraries are relatively basic and 3e have many interesting ideas and things that we would like to accomplish with the libraries but the very first thing that we would like to do is to integrate both the repositories and give users an easy interface to use whatever backend library that they like -> GR Plot or MagickPlot. There is also a lot of refactoring/documentation etc to be done while making a common repo for both of them.

I am assuming that since you are involved with the development of charty then you would wish to make these repositories a part of charty as a starting point. In that case, I would request you to wait a while and I will update you when the integrated repo is done so that that could be easily added to charity.  Both the projects we have are interesting and have a lot of scope so feel free to email me any questions you have at arafat....@gmail.com

Thanks
Regards,
Arafat
