Hi GSoC Mentors,
Happy 2016! As you probably know, after over six years of administering GSoC, Carol has decided it’s time for something new. She has passed the torch and we are looking forward to working with all of you for an exciting 12th year of Google Summer of Code.
We are making some changes to GSoC this year and want to give you a quick preview. The changes are meant to improve the experience for all of us. Please read this email carefully.
A new GSoC website (to replace Melange) will launch in early February at https://g.co/gsoc
You can go to https://g.co/gsoc today to see our new logo and download flyers and slide decks.
We will have IRC office hours on Tuesdays 2-4pm PDT/PST and Thursdays 9-11am PDT/PST where you will be able to reach an OSPO team member. We will be on the channel (Freenode #gsoc) at other times periodically.
gsoc-s...@google.com is our new team email address for technical issues and general questions (i.e missing shipments, forms, submitting blog posts, website bugs, etc.)
Changes to Google Summer of Code:
Effective this year, a person can only participate a maximum of 3 times as a GSoC student in their lifetime.
Mentors can now be under 18. They must be 13 or older and provide parental consent.
Students must submit their code before the mentor can complete their final evaluation of the work.
We are changing the process for mentor stipends, including all travel stipends, in an attempt to simplify and streamline. Stay tuned for further details.
Organizations who do not complete all evaluations will lose their mentor summit invitations and travel stipends.
Orgs who complete all student evaluations receive two invites to the summit including $1100 per person for travel.
Missing one evaluation results in one fewer invitation and $1100 less for mentor travel.
Missing two or more evaluations will result in no mentors being allowed to attend the Mentor Summit (and thus, no funds allocated for travel).
We’re all very excited for another year of GSoC! Please contact us at gsoc-s...@google.com with any questions.
Sincerely,
The GSoC Team -
