Hi folks,

The deadline for student applications is this friday, March 27th. See the official calendar.

Remember that we can allow students to *edit* their proposals after the deadline.

Regards,

Yes. Tagging on to this, I want to encourage students to submit applications early. Remember that you can edit applications once submitted, up until the deadline; and after that we can turn on editing for individual applicants.

I'm currently on vacation and not near internet, so submitting early is a good way to ensure you get feedback from me — particularly if you're working on a project on which I'm a mentor, like NMatrix.

Cheers,
John

Hi all,
Just a heads up for everyone applying: the 2015 Ideas page (
https://github.com/SciRuby/sciruby/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code-2015-Ideas
) links to the 2014 application. The 2015 application is here:
https://github.com/SciRuby/sciruby/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code-2015-Ideas
. I was about to start filling out the old one and wanted to make sure
no one else made the same mistake. (They're not too different though.)

Hi, I'm going to apply with new implementation of gnuplot gem but my contributions to NMatrix that may allow me to submit application is still on review (https://github.com/SciRuby/nmatrix/pull/327). Should I apply if my patch will not be merged before application deadline?

Yes, you can still apply in this particular case, since you've been responsive and the delay is on our end. Good question, thanks for asking.

Hi John,

Sorry for the delay and I'm eager to apply for the NMatrix project.

I've done a lot related SpMV problem, one of them comes to this paper: Optimizing and auto-tuning scale-free sparse matrix-vector multiplication on Intel Xeon Phi

And it couldn't be better to see one of my favorite language is going to do something with science computing!

I'm writing my proposal now. Hope to hear from you.

Thanks,
Vincent

Sorry, I've been on spring break. If you were waiting to hear from me and didn't, that's why. Much needed vacation — first in years.

I'm back now, for any who have questions.
