You are insecure about Windows.

In all my years of using Windows, since 1989 ( and DOS, since 1983 ),
I've yet to experience a malware problem of any kind, shape or form.

True but try telling that to most of these Rubes
in alt.checkmate who are stuck on Windows 7 and
even XP. LOL.

anybody running XP in this day and age won't be able to connect to a lot of websites because of the SSL updates not being provided by microsoft before they dropped support entirely.

anybody who is smart and doesn't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars for abandonware that they think they can brag about can run one of many flavors of linux or better yet freeBSD.

and now everybody knows that gergles runs windows 10. make sure that any malware hijacking links have <> around them and aren't line-wrapped if you want them to work properly.

forget win 10, run linux mint,
free, faster, more stable, no malware
no "auto updates" that spy on your computer
comes with free office programs
you own it, not microsnot

easy to use, mint has very windows like interface

you can order a 500 GB SSD drive for your stale computer, ($70) put mint
on it and fly. f*ck windows.

if you have win 8 or before, you can copy the entire old system over and
put it on a new SSD.

you just keep the old windows drive when you want to do window. HD are
cheap

REM: if you want automatic updates to NSA via Windows 10, you cannot
turn them off.

I also run LinuxMint and find it to be an excellent distribution.
I prefer the Mate desktop but xfce is also nice.

no one will be forced, dingbat.

Just keep using Win 7, + keep updates off.

and try Linux Mint it is free,
no imbedded spyware,
no marketware,
no need to fork over $$$ for stuff that never needed "updating"

I got a bad one on XP, it replaced one of the first files windows starts
up (forgot the name)- all external IO goes through it, so it shut the
computer off from internet, all the ports,

I emailed Kaspersky and they helped me out sent me a killfile for that,
which was a race condition between the killfile and boot up, so it took
about 20 times before it stopped the file from running, then I renamed
it, (xx) I found a good copy of the file (on the same machine in Windows
cab files) and replace the bad one. It turnes out that that file had
about 2k of unused space at the end, so the bad guys put their code
there but have the CRC check calculate the same, so it is almost
undetectable.

the code can intercept all internal/external traffic, credit card #s
etc. Roumered that NSA does this too.

It took a week.

(we have about 10 computers around here, xp, win7,win10, raspberypi,
linux mint, Centos 6 on HP server, ubuntou on a small server(no fans)
Mac, even wait for it...... C/PM ! in the garage on a shelf that OS
fits in 150k on a 8" floppy disk, called the Ferguison or Big Board.

*You* are the one who doesn't know, I assure you.

I don't know what it's like to be you,
but I do know that it's NOTHING like my life.

I'm surprised you haven't written your own operating system, Jeff. Windows was not written for your benefit, but with the intention of allowing Microsoft and corporate America to take advantage of you!

God bless corporate America and all she stands for.

What operating system, on what hardware, are you running ?

Has the snow affected you, over there, by the river ?
