As for the weather in SoCal, it has been perfectly normal for this time
of year.

In the Fullerton area, expect temperatures in the 80's and no rain until
October.

You want humidity and rain, move to Washington state where the temperature
is in the 60's and the humidity pushing 100%.

Not really; a big advantage the big stores have is the ability to buy
in huge quantities at a much reduced price. This means high volume
items will always be cheaper at a big store.

The smart mom and pop stores go for specialty items the big box places
don't bother carrying.
