Did Chris get that great job he was hoping and waiting for? Hope so.

I notice that he posts rather regularly at sci.physics,research. I
guess that he finally got weary of the heel nipping he was getting on
sci.physics.relativity. I really don't blame the guy.

Chris is not perfect (who is) but the facile heel nippers were causing
us to loose a PHD in mathematics. This is a great loss and I see no one
replacing him. His contribution to this site far outweighed his
occasional impatience. Sad indeed. We have lost a good friend, and I
hope he comes back.

Sorry. I mistakenly got the impression that you might have been one of the
immature clods who sometimes posts here insulting the most helpful of people.

Sure, Phil. Than tell me why I can find no reference to you thanking
him for his contributions. Instead, there are numerous occurrences
of you calling Hillman "abusive", "wrong", that you "ignore any
thread bearing his name", etc. So please save the crocodile tears.

The fact is, Hillman's old contributions to this newsgroup are
still a valuable resource, and much can be gained from searching
the archives to look for portions of his posts. Plus, he is still
posting good stuff to usenet. The post of 01 FEB 2002 in a thread
titled 'Tidal Tensor' contains a great deal of substance concerning
relativity. Next to none of that substance is likely to be
discussed on this newsgroup. If that situation were to change,
Hillman might be enticed to post here. Duh!

Not entirely true. I can recall many occasions when I admonished him for
posts which I considered off topic and abusive. In fact, we had many email
correspondences and each was initiated by him. You will find that it has
been quite some time since I have posted any such response to him. But
don't credit me, credit Chris. He evolved and metered his posts. You are
wrong to say that I ignored any thread bearing his name. I have read many
of his posts. To be honest, his technical posts typically were above my
head. Still, I learned some things from him. My original posting was to
aimed at finding out if he obtained a research position to pursue his dream.
I sincerely hope he has or will as I told him some two years ago. It just
occurred to me that he may be too busy to post at s.p.r. any longer.

My recollection/impression was/is that Chris Hillman was/is a group of
members of the University of Washington Physics Department, and that
they use the name "Hillman" because they are all interested in
mountain climbing. Inter alia, this (if true)explains the fact that
Chris is so prolific and expert in so many things. Wasn't there the
physics Chris and the math Chris, for example?

In any event, his/her/their escape to sci.physics.research reflects
the fact thatsci.physics.research is "supervised" (I forget the right
word), so that Hillman can post there without receiving inane replies.
What we have is an example, perhaps, of "bad money driving out good".
The loosers are the amatuers whom Chris patiently helped.

Upon consideration, I think I shall see if attendance at
sci.physics.research pays a greater return than attendance here. Here
one has to sort through the chaff; there it will be a matter of
finding out if anything is understandable, without, in all likelyhood,
being able to post! Obviously, news groups evolve for unobvious
reasons.

Chris Hillman IS abusive, unfortunately.

"wrong",

He's not wrong.
