If this is proved true Trump is finished, being
blackmailed by Russia and not reporting it is
a crime, perhaps the political crime of the
century.

Not even Nixon would betray his nation like this.

CNN
Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian
efforts to compromise him

(CNN)Classified documents presented last week to
President Obama and President-elect Trump included
allegations that Russian operatives claim to have
compromising personal and financial information
about Mr. Trump, multiple US officials with direct
knowledge of the briefings tell CNN.

The two-page synopsis also included allegations that
there was a continuing exchange of information during
the campaign between Trump surrogates and intermediaries
for the Russian government, according to two national
security officials.

Note that the intelligence agencies categorized the information as
'unsubstantiated rumors'. Probably a bunch of stuff started by the
Clinton Campaign, since the original source for the material was
described as 'opposition research'; and who was Trump's opposition?

The intelligence community wouldn't
include simple rumors in their
intelligence report to the PEOTUS.

I wonder if the Russian sources are
opponents of Putin?

The appendix summarized opposition research memos prepared mainly by a
retired British intelligence operative for a Washington political and
corporate research firm. The firm was paid for its work first by Mr.
Trump’s Republican rivals and later by supporters of his Democratic
opponent, Hillary Clinton. The Times has checked on a number of the
details included in the memos but has been unable to substantiate them.

The memos suggest that for many years, the Russian government of Mr.
Putin has looked for ways to influence Mr. Trump, who has traveled
repeatedly to Moscow to investigate real estate deals or to oversee the
Miss Universe competition, which he owned for several years. Mr. Trump
never completed any major deals in Russia, though he discussed them for
years.

The former British intelligence officer who gathered the material about
Mr. Trump is considered a competent and reliable operative with
extensive experience in Russia, American officials said. But he passed
on what he heard from Russian informants and others, and what they told
him has not yet been vetted by American intelligence.

The memos describe sex videos involving prostitutes with Mr. Trump in a
2013 visit to a Moscow hotel. The videos were supposedly prepared as
“kompromat,” or compromising material, with the possible goal of
blackmailing Mr. Trump in the future.

The memos also suggest that Russian officials proposed various lucrative
deals, essentially as disguised bribes in order to win influence over
Mr. Trump.

The memos describe several purported meetings during the 2016
presidential campaign between Trump representatives and Russian
officials to discuss matters of mutual interest, including the Russian
hacking of the Democratic National Committee and Mrs. Clinton’s campaign
chairman, John D. Podesta.

Christ it accuses Trump of spying for Putin by
Trump supplying info on Russian oligarchs
living in the US to Putin in exchange for
Russian dirt on Clinton.

And a large stake in Rosneft for Trump
in exchange for lifting sanctions?

Oh boy this is Watergate on steroids.

Except they did and they even said why they did. They were concerned
that they would get (more) out on the street and wanted to tell Obama
and Trump before they heard them 'in the wild'. In other words, they
didn't want to look like they missed something.

It looks like it is a fake story.

One of the strongest bits of evidence that the story is a fake is that
the 'CIA report' does not use the CIA's report style. When reporting it
the CIA should have noticed.

Right now, at least some of the report appears to be getting discredited.

Report on what might be breaking soon, from a UK paper:

<http://www.dailywire.com/news/12313/hours-trumps-press-conference-cnn-and-buzzfeed-hit-john-nolte>

This second one is full of frankly sick details on the allegations and source. (WARNING Adult/Puerile Language and Subject Matter - You have been warned!)

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-10/4chan-claims-have-fabricated-anti-trump-report-hoax

<http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-10/4chan-claims-have-fabricated-anti-trump-report-hoax>

The great difficulty for the rest of the report is that if part of it is proven false, it will cast doubts on the rest of the material.

It is ironic that in style and execution, the false story almost rings of Putin tactics used against his domestic opponents in Russia. Puerile tactics like attacking an opponent's press conference with a helicopter drone fashioned to resemble a flying Dong have been a hallmark of ruling party tactics against opponents, to distract with coarse and nasty content. If the false story were worked into the mix to discredit the rest, that would be genius, but so far Democratic Party Operatives would be my guess as the source. The probably saw it as so nasty and disturbing that they couldn't resist it. If it is proven false, it will hurt the cause of the report, because once again, it will make the other stuff look bad to have a provably false item included with the rest.

Well the report isn't from the CIA but a reportedly
well respected former MI6 agent with well known
and numerous contacts inside Russia.

And funny when dirt is shoveled by Russia via
the 'transparent' and 'unbiased' source called
Julian Assange, Trump hails it as a fine example
of the free press doing it's job.

But when dirt is shoveled his way, he says this just
four hours ago....

A free press means we live in NAZI GERMANY?

And our intelligence agencies should silence
any negative press??????????????????????

And in his press conference he AGAIN blamed
our intelligence agencies for releasing the
memo, or more disturbing, ALLOWING IT TO BE
RELEASED, while yet again praising Putin for
Putin saying it's fake news.

Trump honors Putin's and Assange's word over
our own intelligence agencies. SO I guess
from now on Trump will meet with Putin
for his intelligence briefings?

Will Trump will go after the free press and
attempt to punish them as Putin has?

By the same logic if ANY of it is proven true then
Trump's flat denial not a bit of it is true will
cast him as a liar and spur investigations.

But if you remember back to the Clinton days, the
republicans mantra was where there's smoke there's
fire and any allegation regardless of it's
veracity deserves Congressional investigations.

Congress spent half a billion dollars investigating
the Clinton's and only came up with the famous
blue dress.

And Trump just said the news agency that released
the memo 'will pay a price'.

Is Trump going to be silencing anti Trump news
agencies or blogs now? I think so.

CNN didn't report the memo, only that the sources
of the memo are widely believed to be credible
within the US intelligence community.

Trump is going to war not only with the US
intelligence agencies, a huge mistake, but
also going to war with ONLY the press that
reports negative stories against HIM.

When Trump starts silencing 'fake news'

Freedom means the kooks of both sides, left
or right get to spew as they like.

Getting rid of just one side distorts the news
as the full spectrum is no longer available
for the people to decide.

Do you really want to live in a world where

This won't hurt the body of the report. All the material about Trump
is in an annex and was clearly marked as 'unsubstantiated'. Of course
the liberals took off with it as if it had been vetted.

Yeah, a former MI6 agent who was running opposition research for the

This is the same MI6 that brought us Niger yellow cake going to Iraq

No, US government intelligence agencies leaking smears to that free
press does. There are big differences between the two things you want
to compare:

1) Leaked actual emails vs unconfirmed rumours
2) Wikileaks vs US intelligence

In other words, the Democrats got hit with THE TRUTH without US
intelligence involvement while Trump got hit with lies leaked by the
US intelligence community.

You don't know who leaked the memo, it could
have been anyone in the room or reading
the brief. Plus this memo has been making
the rounds for months, anyone could have
leaked it. Trump is smearing our own
intelligence agencies before he knows
the facts.

Accusing our own intelligence agencies of
using Nazi tactics before he knows who
leaked is irresponsible, if not a danger
to national security as it'll drive
the best out of our intelligence
agencies and leave it full of partisan
hacks who bow at Trump's whims.

We don't know whether the FBI or anyone
else has confirmed any of those accusations
they aren't commenting. But reports are they're
investigating the claims.

Trump has made it clear he takes Putin's and
Assange's words before our own intelligence
agencies.

That's just plain ignorant.

We don't know if they are lies or not yet, Congress
and the FBI need time to investigate, could
be months or more before we have some idea.

He said just today the site that leaked the memo
will 'pay a price', and he called CNN fake news.
And to a BBC reporter he said 'you're another
good one too', implying they're fake news also.

But those that support his line are the 'good ones'

Other than the intelligence community, exactly 10 people were briefed
on this addendum to the 'Russian Hacking' report. Those people were:

President Barrack Obama
President-Elect Donald Trump
Congressman Devin Nunes
Congressman Adam Schiff
Senator Richard Burr
Senator Mark Warner
Congressman Paul Ryan
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi
Senator Mitch McConnell
Senator Chuck Schumer

So which of them would you like to blame?

Those names are the people to whom the letter is addressed. I suspect
that several White House staff were also informed. The Senators and
Congresspersons may have show their copy to their staff.

The highest ranking intelligence community official
the director of national intelligence James R. Clapper
issued a statement saying he didn't believe
the leak came from the IC community. And that
the memo has been /widely circulated/ in the
last few months. Which means anyone could
have released it.

“The IC has not made any judgment that the information
in this document is reliable, and we did not rely upon
it in any way for our conclusions. However, part of our
obligation is to ensure that policymakers are provided
with the fullest possible picture of any matters
that might affect national security,” Mr. Clapper said."
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jan/11/james-clapper-calls-donald-trump-over-russia-brief/

He continued: "We also discussed the private security
company document, which was widely circulated in recent
months among the media, members of Congress and
Congressional staff even before the IC became aware
of it. I emphasized that this document is not a
US Intelligence Community product and that I
do not believe the leaks came from within the IC."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-russia-leak-dossier-james-clapper-intelligence-director-a7523291.html

So he confirmed the memo was included in the
briefing material just as CNN reported.

Trump blaming the IC community and calling
them NAZI'S while calling CNN fake news
are the acts of a moron, or the acts of
a guilty conscience.

The latter is far more likely. Trump even
lied about his talk with Clapper in his
latest desperate tweet, of many.

any news media that reports news
he doesn't like.

Trump had already confirmed that the memo was included in the appendix of his briefing.

No. Nobody disputed the presence of the memo. CNN took rumors of what those memos MIGHT contain, and spun it into a story about prostitutes and blackmail. Part of their story made the blackmail portion of their story sound like a fact as they expanded on the possible implications of that. THAT is the fake news that Trump is talking about. There was no blackmail.

Every journalist has a responsibility to make sure what they print is as substantiated as possible, and to make sure they call out any possible faults in their information. Today, as news organizations fight for 'views', they often put those things aside in order to get the most attention attracting story out as fast as possible.

Note that all other news organizations (except Buzzfeed who really doesn't count), did not suggest any of the things that CNN did...because they were unable to validate that it was in any way correct information.

No lie here. The call did happen. Clapper again confirmed that the content of the memos is not validated in any way so the stuff that CNN ran could only have been...made up.

It is true that CNNs ratings have dropped, and I'm sure the producers there are under pressure to do something to get their ratings back up.

> Intelligence agencies should never have allowed

How did any journalist find out about an appendix on the president's classified security briefing? That is not information that is given to journalists...it is a CLASSIFIED briefing. Only someone who played a part in assembling that briefing could have informed a journalist of that briefing's content.

The memo in question, however, came from a private firm, so it could have been seen by anyone. So, a journalist COULD get a hold of that without a intel leak, but would still have no way of knowing that it was attached to a briefing this week.

Here's the original CNN story.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/10/politics/donald-trump-intelligence-report-russia/

It only claims the /source/ of the memo is considered credible
by US intelligence officials and involve unsubstantiated
personal and financial aspects. What is inaccurate about that?

If the IC community believes it rises to the level of
informing both Trump and Obama then it's newsworthy
that should be obvious.

If the source of the memo, the MI6 agent, is considered
credible that makes it newsworthy whether the
accusations have been investigated or not.

Here's how it works, first the accusations come
then law enforcement investigates to see if
prosecution is justified. CNN doesn't do the
investigation, only reports the accusations
if the source of the accusations is credible.

We're at the accusation stage, the investigation
is ongoing it appears. No one can say the
accusations in the memo are all false.

Even if one is true, that's enough to
sink Trump if not put him in jail.

Buzzfeed released the memo, not CNN, and it's not fair
to blame one media for the irresponsible acts of
Buzzfeed.

If the memo is a pack of lies Trump doesn't have
anything to worry about, the courts etc will not
prosecute without evidence and Trump can sue
for slander.

But his absurd responses calling our own intelligence
community NAZI's and CNN fake news is so over the top
it displays a guilty conscience and only spurs more
interest in the story.

> Every journalist has a responsibility to make sure what they print is as substantiated as possible, and to make sure they call out any possible faults in their information. Not in the Internet age, anyone can say whatever
they damn will please, just like right now.
Why should our...FREE PRESS...have less rights
than any citizen? The people get to decide
which news outlet is credible or not
NOT TRUMP.

This is a free country.

And now that CNN has reported, the investigation
should begin in earnest and not be covered up
anymore. CNN didn't mention any details of the
memo, but Trump did by his embarrassing statement
on national tv saying he's a bacterial phobe.

A clear reference to the golden shower accusation.

Keeping /secret/ such dramatic accusations from a
reportedly /credible source/ is the act of a NAZI.

What else don't we know about Trump that's being
kept secret?

> Note that all other news organizations (except Buzzfeed who really doesn't count), did not suggest any of the things that CNN did...because they were unable to validate that it was in any way correct information.

And btw, by all accounts the MI6 agent that wrote
that memo is well known and considered credible.

That doesn't give you any worry that some of the
accusations might be correct? Even some of them?
It does me and that's enough to make it newsworthy
and would explain Trump's clearly unusual praise
of Putin no matter what, no matter how minor.

Our Pentagon considers Putin to be America's
number 1 national security threat.

You don't find that suspicious?

If the source were shown to be not credible
then they shouldn't have run the story.

Not validated...yet, he didn't say the memo was
not credible, he said....

“The IC has not made any judgment that the information
in this document is reliable"

That's not the same thing as saying they've
judged it to be not credible. No judgement yet
either way is what he said.
