Hi everyone!

P2PU and Mozilla have been working together to develop Webmaker Training: #TeachTheWeb, and I’m pretty sure you guys might have seen some of it :)

I wanted to point this group to the Exploring module and the Building module specifically because they pull in open licensing and creating open educational resources. The Building module is running now, and I know some of you are participating (thanks!)

Over at Webmaker Training, we’re trying to help people become more web literate and make things for and with the Web using open practices and ethos. The School of Open is a huge source of inspiration for us, and we are looking for ways to create better pathways from Webmaker Training to School of Open and vice versa – I think we all have similar values!

I would love any feedback you have, and appreciate any advice you might give to making this experience better.

Finally, Jane Park is going to be talking about the School of Open on our community call today (sorry for the late notice, calls are recorded and archived though). You’re welcome to join anytime. Details on calling in are here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Webmaker/TeachTheWeb/Calls

Looking forward to strengthening our various open learning communities through more more more collaboration!

Best,
Laura

Thanks Laura!

All, I already reviewed -- and I believe Vanessa has, too. Welcome others thoughts on how to fit these two modules better with SOO (if they don't already). We're thinking of linking to them as stand-alone course resources as well.

Hi Jane and all,

What about changing the designing collaborative workshops course in to a
stand alone course?
https://p2pu.org/en/courses/77/designing-collaborative-workshops/

We could do this as a way of adding to the course and bringing more
people on board as contributors.

A couple of suggestion I have. It would be good to have minimal tasks
for people to do so that they are encouraged to share experience and
keep going to the end

also what about moving this chapter on background deeper into the
course as it's a bit theory heavy to start off with.

nice one
Mick

Mick-- I think that would be great. We'd have to adapt it a bit, but def worth having as stand-alone!

And agree around theory piece.

Did you want to take a first stab at noting down what would need to be changed, added, etc? Or maybe those interested can jump on a call together sometime in the next few weeks.

I definitely think it's a good idea to get feedback from this list on
the content and the activities that are currently on the course.

Maybe we could request it via email first and see if people that
feedback would be up for doing a call.

There was some original feedback here from last summer.
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/school-of-open/GZx9E-bme6M

I would definitely encourage some honest feedback. We had a high sign up
rate but also high drop out rate for the course. Although there's some
great stuff there, something is missing I guess.

Moving and refocusing the the theory / radical background I think will
help. While I'm against the dumbing down of this area, I think it could
be introduced in a better way.
I didn't even think about that at the time as I was so interested in
that aspect.
