External app and eclipse

Hi all, 

I have two questions. 

1. Is there a way to connect an android app (running using Android Studio)  to a Java application in eclipse (client-server type of connection)? 

2. Is it possible to track the transmission of data between two different Java applications (client-server type of apps)? Is there a tool to do so?
