I found IntelliJ more stable than Eclipse both for Java and Scala. IntelliJ IDEA community edition is free: http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/free_java_ide.html

Here is a tutorial for setting up the Scala plugin:
http://confluence.jetbrains.net/display/SCA/Getting+Started+with+IntelliJ+IDEA+Scala+Plugin

Let me know if you encounter any issues.

Hi Mohammad,

Thanks for the info, I have downloaded and setup the IDE on mac, also installed Scala plugin.

But when I create a new project, I don't see Scala listed there. Only option is I have to create a new project with Java and add Scala script after that.

Thanks
Nagappan

Yup, you need to select "Java Module" and then in the next screen select Scala.
