((Bridge, Deck One, USS Constitution-B))

Tyren: Captain, I should prepare my report on our combat engagement aboard the Edison? It may be of use to the Gemini...and the rest of the taskforce should they encounter similar hostile forces.

Faranster: Let's hope that what they are standing against, is a bit more, familiar, however, prepare your report, doesn't hurt to be over prepared.

Tyren: :nodding:: Yes, Sir.

::Cerissa stepped out of the seat and left the bridge via the turbolift.::

((A Short Time Later))

((Marine Command Centre, Deck Thirteen, USS Constitution-B))

::Having returned her rifle to the armoury, although still wearing her body armour – they weren’t out of the woods yet, Cerissa sat in small office at the rear of the marine command centre and looked out through the glass at the various personnel performing their duties.::

::Word had passed down about the Edison's destruction...if that was the right word. The ship may be completely intact in some pocket of space and time, although she doubted it. After the stresses that had been placed on the Constitution during their escape the barely powered Nova-class vessel didn't stand a chance.::

::She read back her report to herself, making sure she had caught all the salient points.::

SFMC Combat Action Report - Startdate 239203.23
Operational Ref.: CON-MAR-CLT-0002
To: Captain Shelther Faranster
CC: Captain Liam Frost; Lieutenant Commander Udas th'shral; SFMC Command

Subject: Away Mission - USS Thomas Edison

Mission Objective:

Board the USS Thomas Edison and extract surviving, uninfected personnel from the engineering section.

Mission Status:
SUCCESSFUL - No casualties.

Away Team Composition:

- Lieutenant Commander Udas th'shral - Mission Commander

- Commander Tal Tel-ar
- Ensign Li Quihui

- Second Lieutenant Cerissa Tyren, SFMC

- Gunnery Sergeant Tal Ren, SFMC

- Corporal Jessica Fisher, SFMC

- Private Luke McPhail, SFMC

Rules Of Engagement:

- Heavy stun settings a standard.

- Lethal force authorised if required to protect uninfected survivors.

- Due to widespread damage to the structure and systems of the target vessel; explosive ordinance was prohibited.

Following sensor sweeps by the USS Constitution an entry point was determined with minimal risk of contact with infected personnel.

SFMC personnel were transported aboard as an intital boarding party and assessed the immediate atmosphere. No contagions were found. The remaining members of the away team followed upon confirmation of this fact.

The mission proceeded as planned towards the engineering section - significant damage was recorded throughout the vessel.

Concerns had been raised by the survivors about infected crew members leaving traps/devices across the ship. Gunnery Sergeant Tal Ren proceeded on point to assist in disabling any such devices which were encountered.

Ensign Li Quihui confirmed contact with infected personnel via motion sensor tricorder readings and contact was confiormed visually by SFMC personnel.

Fourteen targets in total were observed. Targets appeared ape-like in appearance, covered in a thick hair, and displayed significant speed and strength - surpassing that of an average human. Vocalisation was noted but no decipherable speech was recorded. Despite this, however, the group separated into two and attempted to flank the away team - showing communication and coordination.

SFMC engaged hostile personnel, covering non-combatant progress the engineering section. Second Lieutenant Tyren discharged a 'Starbust' signal device to debilitate and disorientate hostile forces to cover the retreat of Commander Tel-ar and Second Lieutenant Tyren.

A second variation of infected personnel was encountered. These appeared more lizard-like in appearance and the hair covering their bodies had matted into a form resembling scales. These alternate form showed resistance to heavy stun phaser discharges.

Upon resealing the engineering section, three survivors were secured:

- Doctor Chaunder Lilivati

- Ensign Eleni Kostas

- Senior Cheif Petty Officer Scott Rand

The engineering section then came under attack from multiple concentrations of infected crew members. The shields were reinforced by diverting power from other systems but this did not appear to deter the attackers. Extreme damaged was caused to the main engineering door as a result of prolonged physical assault - once more attesting to the enhanced strength of the infected crew.

Due to the unknown nature of the contagion and lack of known treatment, the ferocity of the infected personnel and the risk of exposure to the crew of the USS Constitution, Commander Udas, despite protests from the uninfected crew, made the decision to evacuate as planned - leaving the infected crew aboard. This officer supports the decision made by the away mission commander.

The shielding protecting the engineering section, however, prevented extraction but were at the mercy of the rapidly diminishing power reserves. In order to prevent the engineering compartment from being overrun, Junior Lieutenant Ceciri Ariadust aboard the USS Constitution, beamed the infected crew to a separate region of the Edison - allowing the shield to be lowered without endangering the away team or uninfected crew.

The away team, and survivors, were extracted by transporter to the USS Constitution.

Signed

Second Lieutenant Cerissa L. Tyren

::She had toyed with the idea of adding a follow-up note about the fate of the Edison but it wasn’t really her place to note that here. The extraction had been a success…possibly the only thing that had gone according to plan during the whole mission. She took some small price that she had made it through her first real mission and that it gone well. She placed her thumb on the sensor to add her authorisation to the report and enter it into the system.::

::She ran her fingers though her hair and found it caught in several knots from here her braids had snagged together…her amour was hot and sweaty and she could feel the bruise on her side from where she’d landed on the deck plating of the Edison after leaping over the barricade.::

::She was, in a word, disgusting…disgusting but, crucially, alive.::
