We have a new OFA leader for Northern California. Many of you may recognise Amy McGonagle as one our Regional Field Directors from the 2012 campaign.  I wanted to share her letter with you as an introduction/invitation to JOIN OFA for the work we have ahead of us.  It's is important for us to get started right away to move our country forward.  We are contemplating a candlelight vigil at "PEACE CORNER" Winchester/Stevens Creek Boulevard Friday Feb.22 7pm (Stay tuned).  Many of you will remember that I hosted a candlelight vigil there for when Gabby Gifford was shot in Tuscon AZ.  I still have the candles for that event.  Please read Amy's email below and sign up for action.  With your help and her leadership we will be able to move our country FORWARD.

Hello fantastic volunteers!

I am pleased to announce that David Aldridge & I are the new State Leads in California for Organizing for Action! David will be managing Southern CA, and I will be managing Northern CA. OFA will be working on several issues in the coming months: gun safety, immigration, fiscal issues (averting the sequester, closing tax loopholes), and climate change. OFA will be organized into regional chapters, with each chapter responsible for holding events and fundraising. We will be holding a conference call soon for all volunteers to discuss what to expect moving forward. We will send out details once we set a time for the call.

Thank you to everyone that held a State of the Union watch party! We had over 130 watch parties in CA. Please make sure your data has been entered at ofa.bo/SOTUfeedback.

Our first National Day of Action is going to be on Friday, February 22nd, and we will be focusing on the issue of gun violence. The goal for the day is to continue to grow the narrative of grassroots support for reformed gun laws. In order to accomplish this, we are going to hold visibility events in five Congressional Districts. We will be reaching out specifically to individuals in those areas. Outside of the target districts, we will be using social media to broadcast our message nationally via Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #TheyDeserveAVote.

However, if teams would like to hold additional events, such as rallies, candlelight vigils, and visits to Congressional offices, they are highly encouraged to do so.

Events need to be posted online by Sunday, 2/17 in order to get email support, so it is important to start planning right away. If you are interested in helping to plan an event, please let us know (we will send out invitations for attendees later). If you can help in SoCal, please email David at davidald...@gmail.com. If you are in NorCal, please email Amy at amymcg...@gmail.com.

If you would like to join our email list, please fill out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Re0e-T7BBMAZP5S9zlq6mfFfreWo259M5zBesrfQ7hQ/viewform. Please note that if you do not fill this form out, you will NOT receive further emails from us even if you have signed up at www.barackobama.com. I am sending this email out as widely as possible, but please forward it to your teams to make sure that everyone receives it. I apologize if anyone receives it more than once.

David & I are also looking for volunteers to help us manage each region. Please contact us if you are interested in assisting with this.

I am very excited about the journey ahead, and I look forward to working with all of you. Thanks for everything you do.

Amy McGonagle
