I'm running salt-minion on several hundred Embedded Linux devices (Beaglebone Blacks). They have a bit of an old distribution and I wanted to see what I could upgrade to so I added the PPA from the Salt documentation. It appears that I can only upgrade to the latest maintenance release of 2014.1. I'd like to upgrade to 2016.11 if possible. What steps are necessary to do this and feel confident that it's dependencies are being met?

The salt packages are located at http://repo.saltstack.com/

So you might check there if there is a newer version that works with
those devices.

Thanks. It wasn't clear to me how to search the repo but I finally stumbled upon this. From there I was able to use the AMD instructions and just swap amd with armhf in the paths.
