Algebraic Geometry in Sage

Hey everyone:

There's a command in M2 called "selectInSubring". I was wondering, though I know I can use M2 through sage, is there a direct way to do this through Sage itself? Or is interfacing to M2 the only way? Here is the M2 description of the function:
