Hello, I've spent a considerable amount of time looking, reading posts, and attempting to read the manuals. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to accomplish what I wish. I use Python, R, and Octave -- I invoke the command interpreter on the DOS command line. I can enter commands interactively. I can also write prIograms using a text editor, import, source, or load the programs in the command interpreter, and execute the programs.

I'm new to sage an d new to virtual box, and (quite frankly) don't know what I'm doing. When I open VirtualBox, I see a Sage7.2 VM. When I start that VM, I get a Jupyter Notebook. I cannot for the life of me seem to be able to invoke the command interpreter I've tried repeatedly pressing Rt-Ctl, F-1 (which is what the instructions say to do, but that does not work.

How do I get to the command interpreter in Sage running on VirtualBox? Here are a couple of screenshots. Thanks, CC

Press Right-Ctrl and F1 to switch to a console window. Or ssh into the vm. More at https://wiki.sagemath.org/SageAppliance/SageMath-7

Thanks for your response. I've seen that and tried it. Didn't work. The last time I did <RT-CTL><F1> repeatedly, thinking perhaps that I had only a small window, and it still didn't work. Exactly WHEN should I press this sequence?

Thanks again for your help, CC

Right Ctrl key is the default "host key" of Virtual Box.
(it is also used to switch between its full-screen and normal modes -- in combination with a different key, not F1)
If you did set the host key to something else, you'd need to use your new "host key" instead of your right Ctrl key.
