Just catching up with a few reports that have come through today in case any of you are still looking for something to do on the long weekend…

 

Western Cape:

 

SQUACCO HERON – a single bird relocated in the channel that runs alongside Pan P7 at Strandfontein Sewage Works earlier today – reported by John Carter.

BLUE-CHEEKED BEE-EATER – several birds still present this afternoon at the normal area on the Agulhas Plains – reported by Gerald Wingate.

WHITE-BROWED SCRUB ROBIN – a single bird found this morning along the eastern side of the Robberg Peninsula Trail in Plettenberg Bay at -34.103, 23.399 – reported by Mike Buckham.

 

Eastern Cape:

 

MANGROVE KINGFISHER – still present throughout today at the Sandbar Floating Restaurant at the mouth of the Bushmans River – reported by a number of birders.

Some news and updates from today…

 

Western Cape:

 

NORTHERN SHOVELER – still present today on the eastern end of Oudebaskraal Dam in the Tanqua Karoo National Park – reported by Niall Perrins and Peter Rosewarne.

SQUACCO HERON – still present today in the channel alongside Pan P7 at Strandfontein Sewage Works – reported by Michael Mason.

BLUE-CHEEKED BEE-EATER – several birds still present today in the usual spot on the Agulhas Plains – reported by Vernon Slabbert.

AFRICAN PALM SWIFT – 2 birds seen flying over Guildford Road in Parklands – reported by Trevor Hardaker.

 

Eastern Cape:

 

MANGROVE KINGFISHER – still present this morning around the Sandbar Floating Restaurant at the mouth of the Bushmans River – reported by Phil Whittington.

 

Namibia:

 

CITRINE WAGTAIL – no sign so far today of the bird at Rossmund Golf Course Sewage Treatment Plant in Swakopmund – reported by Dayne Braine.

Western Cape:

 

AFRICAN PALM SWIFT – 2 birds seen over the N7 between the Diep River bridge and the Vissershok Dump site around lunch time – reported by Simon Fogarty and Mel Tripp.

AFRICAN PIED WAGTAIL – a single bird still present today at the Angler’s Club jetty on the Keurbooms River in Plettenberg Bay – reported by Mike and Adam Buckham.

 

Eastern Cape:

 

MANGROVE KINGFISHER – still present today at the Sandbar Floating Restaurant at the Bushmans River mouth – reported by Phil Whittington.
