COMMON REDSHANK – a single bird was seen and photographed yesterday on the main mudbank (half way between the N2 and Wylde Bridge) on the Swartkops estuary in Port Elizabeth at -33.863 25.615. This is almost certainly the same individual that spent a number of weeks further upstream earlier this year – reported by Paul Martin.

Kind regards
Trevor

RUFOUS-BELLIED HERON – a single bird was seen and photographed earlier today on a farm near Maclear in the Eastern Cape.  The farm has a caravan park and guest cottages called Tortoni (contact no. Megan on 0842002548 or Sandy on 0833860059) and is about 6km outside of Maclear on the R56 (500m off the main road on your left) on the Ugie side or 15km on the R56 from Ugie (500m off the main road on your right) towards Maclear. Apparently, the bird was present at the dam at the caravan site. This is a pretty spectacular record for the Eastern Cape – reported by Ron and Marianne Springer via Pam Kleiman.

Kind regards

Trevor
