PECTORAL SANDPIPER – a single bird has been seen and photographed this morning at a farm dam at Grassland Instant Lawn farm on the R50 just outside Bapsfontein (Gauteng) at -25.973, 28.393. It has apparently been there for at least 3 days now – first found by Pieter Cronje and now reported by Cameron Meyer.

This is on private property, but the farmer has given permission for birders to enter the property and look for the bird based on the following conditions:

You may only access the farm during normal trading hours which, during the week is from 08h00 – 16h00 and on weekends and public holidays is from 08h00 – 12h00. Once you have turned into the farm, you must first go and report at the office which is along the entrance road to let them know that you are there (the manager’s name is Jacques).

The farmer requests that birders please don’t drive across the lawn as that will potentially damage it and it is his source of income. The bird is apparently around the western end of the dam, so please rather park sensibly and walk around to the western end of the dam instead of driving there.

Simple conditions, so let’s hope that everyone abides by them.

Good luck!

Kind regards
Trevor
