One of the most frequently asked questions that I get asked by SARBN subscribers is how to get to Mkhombo Dam. Since there are a lot of new members who may not necessarily have seen the directions posted a number of times in the past on SARBN, I am just posting this again for their benefit.

From the N1 travelling north, take the Zambezi offramp. Turn right into Zambezi Drive (R513) and proceed for just over 1 km to the R573 (Moloto/KwaMhlanga road). Turn left, follow the R573 for 57 km, and turn left into the R568 towards Libangeni. After 36 km there's a four way stop at which you turn left. You need to travel through the small village of Libangeni and then on to a dirt track which takes you down to the water's edge of Mkhombo Dam (also called Rhenosterkop Dam on Google Maps). Once you’ve reached the T-junction at the bottom of the track, you need to turn right towards the dam wall and this stretch is where most of the good birds have been hanging out recently.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

Trevor
