NOTE: This is a study being conducted by some of the people in my lab at UTSA, but I'm not personally involved. In fact, I don't know exactly what it's trying to study.

What you need to do (as I understand it):

1) Install a plugin developed by the researcher into your Android Studio environment.
2) Use it on your current Android project.
3) Answer some questions.
4) Profit!

It sounds like they're paying $30 for a study that should take between 15 minutes to an hour. They're still working out the details, but I believe that payment is in the form of an Amazon gift card. All that he could say about when is that it will be some time after the next two weeks, but that they should be able to be pretty flexible.

You should use the plugin on your current Android project so that it will be tested on real-world code, but they won't need to access your code for the research study.

If there are enough interested people from 10-bit, I expect that I can convince them to perform the study in the classroom at the space so that you won't have to go up to UTSA for it.

If you are interested, I'll put you in touch with the principal investigator (I don't want to post his email address in this message).
